Spotlight on Learning
Jerusalem Community
Dear Families,
We have had a great Week 2 in Year 1! In Mathematics, students have been exploring probability by predicting and recording outcomes when rolling numbers. In Reading, we are continuing to build our knowledge of sounds, with a focus on recognising and applying “ar” words. In Writing and Integrated, students are developing their ideas and learnt all about maps from Martha Maps It Out. In Religion, we are assessing prior knowledge and starting a new topic on celebrations.
A big thank you to all families for sharing such beautiful holiday photos—students loved seeing the many ways celebrations were honoured, including Greek Easter, Holi, and Catholic traditions. We look forward to celebrating together at our Mother’s Day Breakfast on Friday 8th May 2026!

Religious Education: We are beginning to unpack our inquiry questions for this term of What do we need to grow?- this question links nicely with some important events this coming term and connects with our main scripture focus for Creation.

Writing: We will be moving on to read Are we there yet? by Alison Lester.
Reading: We will be learning the phoneme /aw/ and explore alternative spellings.
Mathematics: We will finish up our learning of the number tracks game and start to talk about what 100 looks like and why zero is important.

Integrated Curriculum: We will continue to learn about maps and finding different places in Australia.

Auslan: We will be doing Unit 3C.

Social & Emotional Learning: Students will be naming their trusted adults at school and stating the qualities that make a trusted adult.

• Listen to your child read regularly and encourage them to use their decoding strategies when they come to an unfamiliar word.
• After reading, ask your child to retell what happened, share their favourite part, or explain how a character was feeling.
• Re reading familiar texts is a great way to build confidence, fluency and expression.
• Notice numbers in everyday places and ask questions like, “How many altogether?” or “How do you know?”
• A curious question to ask this week could be: What is something you learned that made you laugh?

Please ensure that you are labelling your child's belongings.
Can we please ask for a pair of socks and underwear to be placed in the front zip pocket of your child's school bag in case of a toileting accident.
Enjoy your weekend,
The Jerusalem Team
