Book Week – 18 to 22 August

This year’s Book Week theme is ‘Book an Adventure’ and library staff are planning a fun filled week with events for students and staff to participate in.  To get things started, the library is running a competition with prizes!  Send us a picture of yourself with your favourite book or a book face photograph that you have created.  These images will be displayed on library screens during book week.  Here is the calendar of lunchtime events during Week 5:

Monday – Staff event

Tuesday & Wednesday – The Annual Library Trivia Quiz:  get a team of 6 together (you may invite one teacher to your table – total of 6 people on a table) and join the fun over two days.  Sign-up sheets are at the library desk.

Thursday – The Student Book Swap: find your next great read, bring a pre-loved book to swap with another student.

Friday – The QBD Bookstore Book Fair:  the QBD bookstore at Southland is coming to the library!  Students can select a brand-new book for the library to purchase and then be the first to borrow it.  Come along to see what new books have been published and talk to Kat, who is QBDs knowledgeable book seller.

CBCA Shadow Judging 2025

Shadow Judging wrapped up last week with the MGSC Reading group voting for Birdy by Sharon Kernot as the best CBCA Older Readers book in 2025.  Students have read six young adult novels within a very short time frame in order to participate in this program.  I would like to congratulate all of the following students on their astute literary insights and collaborative efforts to achieve one overall winner: Caitlin, Charlotte, Ella, Keira, Maria, Mavis and Trinity.

The CBCA winning books will be announced sometime within the next few weeks.

70th Anniversary Post It Note Wall Mural

The library foyer is ablaze with colour now that the new wall mural has been completed.  Designed, with MGSC’s 70th anniversary in mind, it contains well over 1,200 post it notes and was completed over the course of two weeks.  A big thank you to the students who took part in the build:   Bec, Kate, Pina, Maria, Mavis, Keira and Ella.  You did a marvellous job.

Book Club

The Song of Achillies and Gideon the Ninth are the titles selected by book club students for term three. Copies are available at the library desk for students to borrow.  The next Book Club will be held in week seven on Thursday, 11 September.

Students are welcome to drop by the library or email library@mgsc.vic.edu.au at any time with details of their name and class to join.
