Principal's Message

Dear Parents, Carers and Students

As we begin Term 3, it has been inspiring to witness our vibrant school community in full stride - learning, performing, leading and collaborating with purpose and passion. The past few weeks have showcased the very best of Mentone Girls' Secondary College and brought to life our core values of Empowerment, Achievement, Inclusivity and Creativity.

We started the term by welcoming 16 Monash University pre-service teachers to MGSC. Thank you to our dedicated teaching staff who so generously open their classrooms and share their professional expertise. This culture of mentoring and shared responsibility not only empowers the next generation of educators but also enriches our own teaching practice.

Our annual Music Camp was a tremendous success, with 106 students from Years 8 to 12 participating in three unforgettable days of music-making, team-building and laughter. A heartfelt thank you to Wendy Harvey and our exceptional music staff - your creativity, commitment and care make this experience such a treasured memory for our students. A special mention also to our Year 12 music leaders who upheld tradition by running the evening activities and producing the camp video - your leadership and spirit truly exemplify empowerment in action.

Course counselling is now underway for our Year 9 and 10 students. This important milestone allows students to reflect on their learning, explore their interests and plan future pathways. I’m grateful to the many staff who are supporting these personalised conversations - your investment in student voice and agency is a powerful demonstration of our commitment to inclusive and student-centred learning.

Next week, we will proudly send 76 students to the Aerobics and Dance Nationals in Hobart. This outstanding achievement speaks volumes of their discipline, creativity and determination. Enormous thanks to Tess Molina, our dedicated coaches and the parents who are travelling with our students - you are enabling these young athletes to shine on the national stage.

We also celebrated Year 9 Day, a full-day event designed to build connection, confidence and identity. Thank you to the staff who accompanied the Year 9s, and those who covered classes - it’s this collective effort that ensures every student can thrive.

Meanwhile, our Junior Strings are preparing to perform at the Victorian Schools Music Festival, and students across all year levels are taking part in the Australian Maths Competition - a reminder that academic challenge and creative excellence are both celebrated at MGSC.

These past few weeks have been a vivid reminder of what makes our school community so special—students striving for personal bests, teachers going above and beyond, and a shared belief in the power of education to uplift and inspire. I am proud of every contribution, large or small, and I thank each member of our school community for continuing to bring our values to life.

Warm regards

Linda Brown
