Careers & Pathways
Celebrating Careers Week!
Meet our Careers Practitioners Belinda Gleeson and Naomi O'Connor:
Helping students achieve their career dreams is all in a day’s work for staff members Belinda Gleeson and Naomi O’Connor. The pair both work as Career Practitioners at St Anne’s College.
In addition to careers counselling, Belinda is also the Applied Learning Coordinator at St Anne’s College which focuses on the pathways such as TAFE, work placements and school-based apprenticeships.
Naomi focuses on pathways through tertiary education and navigating subject selection with VTAC.
In addition to her role as career practitioner, Naomi was also recently appointed to the position of Virtual Schools Victoria (VSV) Coordinator to oversee and support students undertaking VSV subjects as part of their school program.
Belinda joined the team at St Anne’s College during its inception – starting as a CRT in 2019 before moving into a permanent position as a Learning Mentor the following year before moving into the careers space.
Belinda was joined by Naomi in Term 1 this year who comes with extensive experience in teaching and careers counselling. While their roles do cross over at times, the pair provide comprehensive support for students in any career pathway they desire.
With extensive knowledge and experience in the space, the pair share a passion for supporting students at various stages of their educational journey and assisting them in achieving their desired pathway post-school.
This week is National Careers Week (May 13-19) which celebrates careers, career development, career development services and career development practitioners.
Careers Day Out
Year 10 students recently attended the Careers Day Out in Shepparton. Photos and a write-up on the event can be found in the School of Possibilities section of this il giornale.
Year 10 Work Experience
Last week of Term 2 (Monday 24 June to Friday 28 June)
During the last week of this Term, Year 10 students will go out for a week of work experience. This is an exciting time for our students as it provides insight into industry and gives students the opportunity to develop employability skills; explore possible career options; understand employer expectations; and increase their self-understanding, maturity, independence and self-confidence.
Students have prepared for the upcoming work experience program in their careers classes this term. As part of this process, students have created or updated their resumes to reflect a professional style format. In addition, students are drafting cover letters to request potential work experience placements. As part of the legal requirements, students must complete two Occupational Health & Safety Certificates - one general module and one in a related industry area. Before completing their placements, there are two legal arrangement forms that must be submitted to the school fully signed ready for Sue’s (Principal’s) signature. All paperwork should be completed and returned to the student’s careers teacher who will arrange for Belinda to process paperwork to be signed. All paperwork must be submitted two weeks prior to students completing their placement. If you have any queries, please contact your students careers teacher.
We would also welcome any families who run their own businesses to consider supporting our youth by hosting a placement. If you are considering it and have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact Belinda or Naomi in the careers team.
