2026 Snow Tour

Our Year 10 and Year 11 students recently enjoyed an unforgettable Snow Camp at Mt Buller, filled with adventure, challenge and plenty of fun on the slopes.

The camp got off to the perfect start, with snow falling throughout the entire first day, creating an incredible alpine experience. Over the course of the camp, students participated in skiing and snowboarding lessons, developing their skills, confidence and independence on the mountain.

From first-time skiers and snowboarders learning to stop and turn, to more experienced students tackling challenging runs, everyone embraced the opportunity to step outside their comfort zone, build resilience and try something new.

It was a fantastic experience for all involved, bringing students together through shared challenges, achievements and plenty of unforgettable moments. The Snow Camp was a wonderful opportunity for students to grow, have fun and create lasting memories with their peers.

Central Australia Camp

Day 1: Arrival in Alice Springs

Our Central Australia adventure began with an early flight from Melbourne to Alice Springs. Upon arrival, we met Reg from Remote Education Tours, who would be our guide throughout the week. Reg immediately shared his enthusiasm and knowledge of the region, setting the tone for an unforgettable journey.

Our first stop was the Alice Springs Botanical Gardens, where we enjoyed lunch surrounded by stunning scenery. Students took the opportunity to explore the gardens, take photos, and soak in their first glimpse of the unique Central Australian landscape.

We then travelled to the Alice Springs Desert Park, where students were able to experience the incredible wildlife of the region. We explored kangaroo, dingo, and bird enclosures, learning about the animals that call the desert home. A highlight of the visit was the bird show, where students came face-to-face with native bird species, including the striking Pink Cockatoo.

Later in the afternoon, we arrived at our accommodation at St Philip's College. After meeting Kes, our camp chef for the week, students settled in, set up camp, and enjoyed a delicious dinner before resting for the exciting days ahead.

Day 2: Exploring the MacDonnell Ranges

After breakfast, we departed St Philip's College and headed into the breathtaking West MacDonnell Ranges. Guided by Reg, we explored Ormiston Gorge and completed a walk to the lookout, where students were rewarded with spectacular views of the surrounding landscape.

Our journey continued through Glen Helen Gorge before travelling to Ellery Creek Big Hole. Here, students experienced the peaceful beauty of one of Central Australia's most iconic waterholes. Surrounded by towering red cliffs and tranquil water, it was the perfect place to reflect and appreciate the natural wonders of the region.

To finish the day, students took part in a reptile show featuring a variety of lizards and snakes. The session brought plenty of laughs, some nervous moments, and countless photo opportunities. It was wonderful to see students supporting one another as many bravely overcame their fears and embraced the experience.

Day 3: Connecting with Country at Lilla

Day three saw us travel from Alice Springs to Lilla, where students were given the opportunity to experience and learn about Indigenous Country.

A memorable bush walk led us to a stunning waterhole hidden amongst the landscape. The stillness and beauty of the area left students in awe, with many taking time to quietly appreciate their surroundings. It was a powerful moment of connection with the land and culture of Central Australia.

Upon arriving at camp, students embraced the outback experience by setting up their own swags and tents, preparing for a night under the stars.

Day 4: Conquering Kings Canyon

Day four began with one of the most anticipated challenges of the trip: the Kings Canyon Rim Walk.

Reg had repeatedly warned us that the track goes "up, and up, and up, and up," and he was certainly not exaggerating! Despite some nerves at the beginning of the climb, every student rose to the challenge and successfully made it to the top.

The reward was worth every step. Spectacular views stretched across the canyon, providing some of the most breathtaking scenery of the entire trip. We even stopped to visit Reg's favourite tree, which the group enthusiastically greeted along the way.

Over four hours, students navigated rocky pathways, towering cliffs, and hidden waterholes. One particular stop allowed us to enjoy a well-earned snack while taking in the incredible surroundings.

Following the hike, we were welcomed by Indigenous Elders who shared traditional kangaroo tail and damper cooked over the fire. Students also participated in a traditional dot painting workshop led by Cara and local Elders, gaining valuable insight into Indigenous culture, storytelling, and artistic traditions.

Day 5: The Beauty of Kata Tjuta

Our journey continued as we travelled from Lilla to Yulara. Before long, we were back on the bus heading towards Kata Tjuta.

Led by Cara, students completed a guided walk through this remarkable landscape. As parts of Kata Tjuta are sacred, photography was prohibited in certain areas. This encouraged everyone to be fully present and appreciate the significance of the site.

The walk challenged students with rocky paths, steep stairs, and narrow passages, but the effort was rewarded when we reached the Valley of the Winds lookout. The breathtaking views of towering rock formations, vibrant red earth, and lush green vegetation created a scene that words and photographs could never truly capture. Although we were unable to take pictures, the memories will remain with us forever.

Day 6: Uluru at Sunrise

An early start allowed us to witness one of the most iconic sights in Australia: sunrise over Uluru.

Watching the colours of the landscape change as the sun rose over the horizon was a truly unforgettable experience. We then completed the 10-kilometre Uluru Base Walk. Fortunately, the cooler and cloudy weather conditions made the challenge more manageable, allowing everyone to fully enjoy the experience.

Throughout the walk, students gained a deeper appreciation of the cultural significance of Uluru while respecting the land and its stories. There were plenty of laughs, memorable moments, and opportunities to capture the stunning scenery through photographs where appropriate.

The afternoon provided a very different highlight as we visited the Camel Farm. Students enjoyed meeting several camels, including two very popular baby camels named Clementine and Squirt, who quickly became favourites among the group.

Later, a visit to the Ayers Rock Resort shops and Cultural Centre gave students the opportunity to purchase souvenirs and learn more about the rich history and culture of the region.

That evening, unexpected rain and strong winds arrived, forcing us into our tents for the night. While we missed our planned final evening under a star-filled sky, the weather certainly added another memorable chapter to our adventure.

Day 7: Farewell to Central Australia

Our final day arrived all too quickly. Before leaving Yulara, we made one last stop at a lookout to take some final photos and reflect on the incredible experiences we had shared over the past week.

After packing up camp and completing our final clean-up, Reg accompanied us to the airport. As we said our goodbyes, there were plenty of smiles, handshakes, and even a few tears. Over seven days, students had formed new friendships, challenged themselves physically, developed a deeper appreciation for Indigenous culture, and experienced some of Australia's most remarkable landscapes.

We boarded our flight from Ayers Rock Airport to Melbourne. Although the journey home was a little bumpy, we arrived safely and were warmly welcomed back by our families at Melbourne Airport.

The Central Australia Camp was an unforgettable experience filled with adventure, learning, resilience, and connection. It is a trip that students and staff will remember for many years to come.
