Our superstar team brings home gold again

Please congratulate the members of the Koonung Chess Club who continued their winning ways again in 2026 taking out 1st Place in the Interzonal Tournament today by a country mile. Koonung finished on a total score of 23.5/28, well ahead of 2nd place Alphington Grammar (19.5) and fellow private school Xavier (19). Another chess trophy into the A-Block pool room!

Our star players were Ashton Lonnen (6.5/7) coming straight off musical, Josiah Ng (6/7), Matt Rogers, Sahar Shirwala and Stefan Lee (5.5/7), though we had many players distinguish themselves with great play and a great attitude. We have now 10 players who have qualified for the Regional Final.

Well done to all and a thank you to Li Zhou  who made the day possible by attending in support of the team.
