As we approach the end of term, I had the pleasure of attending the Year 12 Music Soirée last week. These evenings provide a wonderful opportunity for our music students to share their gifts with family, friends and staff, and to let their light shine before our community.

Our five performers — Noah (Trumpet), Isaac (Alto Saxophone), Zachary (Alto Saxophone), Markus (Alto Saxophone) and Vaughn (Electric Guitar) — each presented three pieces on the night. Their performances were not only technically impressive but also deeply moving.

What is most striking is that, as an audience, we experience these performances as polished and effortless. What we do not always see is the dedication behind the scenes — the countless hours of practice, perseverance and collaboration that make such performances possible. In many cases, students rehearse alongside their peers and teachers, developing not only their individual skill but also the ability to listen, respond and perform in harmony with others. These are powerful lessons that extend well beyond the music room.

The program took us on a rich and varied musical journey, allowing each student’s unique strengths and personality to shine. From jazz to classical, and from Baroque to rock, the evening was a celebration of both diversity and excellence within our music program.

Congratulations to our outstanding musicians for the way they so confidently shared their talents with others. In doing so, they truly embodied our call to let their light shine. My sincere thanks also to their dedicated teachers: Ms De Francesco, Mrs Ovijach for her marking on the night, Ms Zhong for accompanying students, and Ms Duff for her ongoing leadership of the program.
