Wellbeing - Middle School

More than Just a Race
Last Thursday, I had the privilege of spending time at both our Primary and Senior School Athletics Carnivals. While the competition, effort and athletic achievements were certainly highlights, what stood out most was the strong sense of camaraderie, connection and wellbeing evident throughout both events.
When addressing students and parents, I often speak about the importance of student wellbeing and its impact on learning. These carnivals provide a powerful reminder that wellbeing is not something separate from education—it is an essential foundation for it. When our Middle School boys feel connected to their peers, experience a sense of belonging and engage positively with their school community, they are more likely to be motivated, resilient and ready to learn.
At both carnivals, it was inspiring to watch students encourage one another, celebrate personal achievements and support classmates regardless of results. Whether it was the primary students proudly completing their first race, or the seniors' trackside cheering on their friends, these moments demonstrated the positive relationships that help students thrive. Participation in these College events also promotes confidence and resilience. Our boys are challenged to step outside their comfort zones, try new events and persevere through both success and disappointment.
While the day was certainly busy, it was incredibly rewarding to witness the enthusiasm, sportsmanship and school spirit on display across both carnivals. Thank you to the staff, students and families who contributed to the success of both carnivals. On a different note, I will take this opportunity to wish everyone a restful and enjoyable holiday break coming up, and I look forward to seeing all the students return in Term 3.
