With sunny skies, mild temperatures and a relatively dry track, the conditions were close to perfect for the Junior School House Athletics Carnival. With events kicking off early (7:30 AM for our 1500m athletes) it was always going to be a long but energetic day.

The carnival started as a close affair with all Houses trading places for the lead. By mid-morning there was only a small gap in points between all the Houses, and the carnival win was within everyone’s grasp. However, as the day went on two Houses stretched out in front making it a two-horse race. It would be a battle between Rice and Coghlan.
The day was full of exciting races, long throws, and high jumps. The moment of the day came with the 12 years high jump. As Liam D of Year 6 edged every closer to the record, the whole Junior School (regardless of House) got behind Liam and tried to lift him over the bar. The support shown by everyone was what we pride ourselves on at St Patrick’s and showcased the spirit, heart and meaning behind being a ‘St Patrick’s boy.’ Unfortunately, Liam just missed the record, however the cheers and support continued for him. It was an amazing moment to witness and be part of.

At the end of the day, it was Rice House that were victorious. A huge congratulations to all our boys for their efforts on the day and particularly to the boys in Rice, who shone throughout the day displaying exceptional involvement, enthusiasm and commendable leadership alongside their Captains and Year 6 students.

Congratulations also to our Age Champions for 2026.

I would like to thank all the parents/carers that came out to watch and support the boys for either part or the whole day. You contributed to making the atmosphere at the carnival palpable and exciting. I huge thank you to all the Junior School Staff, as without you and your dedication we wouldn’t be able to run such an effective and engaging event. There is so much more that goes into the day than just doing your allocated task, so from me personally, Thank You!
The SPC Athletics Squad will be announced early in Term 3.
While the carnival was in full swing, Samuel U had to miss out as he was representing NSWCIS at the PSSA Rugby League Championships. The championships were held in Parkes this year, with all the sporting zones in NSW coming together to play. The CIS team performed very well, as did Sam, and managed to take third place in the competition. Samuel was one of the standout players and this was reflected in his selection into the NSW Squad. An amazing achievement. I know the whole community will join me in congratulating Sam on his achievements.

A reminder that we have a long break now in winter sport. All teams have completed their training for this week and there is no further training or games until we return in Term 3. Training will re-commence on our return, Tuesday 21 July, with the final three rounds of winter sport being played on Saturday 25 July, 1 and 8 August, respectively.
I would like to wish everyone a safe and relaxing holiday period. May it be a time of recovery, reflection, and renewal for semester 1 and preparation for the new semester ahead.
