Marissa Di Marzio - Class of 2019

It was lovely to see Marissa Di Marzio return for a visit to MGC. Marissa graduated from MGC in 2019 and was an Arts Captain and did Year 12 music as her accelerated subject. Highlights of her time at MGC was when she won an individual award at Generations in Jazz and winning our section at VSMF. Marissa just finished her Jazz Music Degree at Monash, majoring in Drums. Marissa is pictured here giving some encouragement to one of our Year 8 drummers, Tilly Higgins.

Kitty Green - Class of 2002

Past student turned filmmaker Kitty Green released her latest film The Royal Hotel in Australia last week. Starring Julia Garner (Ozark) and Jessica Henwick (Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery) and featuring Australian industry royalty Hugo Weaving (The Lord of The Rings), The Royal Hotel is about two Canadian backpackers who begin working in a pub in rural Australia, where they quickly learn the dangerous nature of Australia’s drinking culture and its associated behaviours. The psychological thriller has been praised by many critics, citing its authenticity and representation of toxic masculinity. It received official selection at the London Film Festival and nominated for Best Film at the San Sebastian International Film Festival.

Kitty graduated from Melbourne Girls’ College in 2002 before pursuing filmmaking at The Victorian College of the Arts. She began directing documentaries, creating Ukraine is Not A Brothel (2013) and Casting JonBenet (2017) before directing feature length films. This is her second time working with Julia Garner after her film The Assistant (2019). It makes us very proud to see past students excelling in their field!
