Intermediate Hockey State Finals. 

2023 has been an outstanding year of Interschool school sport performances and achievements. Our students represented MGC at both the Regional and State level. A total of 35 teams progressed through to the Regional Finals and a total of 14 teams qualified and competed at the State Finals.

On Wednesday the 8th of November our Intermediate Hockey Team competed at the State Hockey Championships. Our Intermediates showed incredible determination and teamwork playing with only players for the tournament and in the 29-degree heat. Our Intermediates showed amazing depth and skill throughout the day, winning 2 out of the 3 matched and placing 3rd out of the State. Well done, Intermediates, we were blown away with your resilience, teamwork, determination and exceptional skills.

 

Year 8 Hockey State Finals. 

On Friday the 10th of November, the Year 8 Hockey Team competed at the State Hockey Championships. Once, again our students did a phenomenal job. Although, the weather permitted some challenges, the Year 8s continued to work together and demonstrate a high level of skill throughout the competition. Our Year 8s won each round, progressing to the final against Blackburn SC. The Year 8s came out strong, playing a both a great defensive and attacking game. Sadly, Blackburn scored 2 goals in the last half, with the final score 3-1. Our Year 8 Hockey team displayed an incredible performance and should be extremely proud of themselves, naming them the 2023 State Champion Runners up. 

 

Year 8 Tennis State Finals. 

On Thursday the 23rd of November our Year 8 Tennis Team competed at the State Finals, which was held at Dingley Tennis Club. Our Year 8s were off to a strong start winning their first match against Brighton SC 6/24 to 0/2. We continued to play a high level of tennis throughout the day, beating Maribyrnong C in a tough match 4/18 to 2/13, winning against Nagle C Bairnsdale 6/24 to 0/4. Unfortunately, we lost against Maribyrnong C 2/13 to 4/18. However, our Year 8s continued demonstrate an remarkable ability and talent, winning our final match against Girton GC 5/21 to 1/13. The Year 8s were named the 2023 State Runners up Champions with a total score of 4 matches, 23 sets and 101 games. Well done Years 8s this is an incredible achievement.

 

Year 7 Cricket Semi and State Finals. 

On Thursday the 23rd of November the Year 7 Cricket Team competed in the Cricket Semi and State Finals, at McDonell Park, Bendigo. The Year 7s played Balwyn HS in the Semi Final. It was a competitive game against Balwyn and our Year 7s were impressive to say the least. Our 7s displayed incredible depth within the team and showed unbelievable batting and bowling abilities. The game was close but our Year 7s pulled away with Holly Walsh taking two critical wickets. The Year 7s defeated Balwyn HS 5 for 143 to 9 for 129, progressing to the State Finals against Trinity C Colac. The Year 7s went into the Final feeling confident, they continued to support one another and show wonderful teamwork on and off the field. The Year 7 Cricket Team demonstrated a tremendous performance against Trinty, defeating Trinity C Colac in a nail-biting match, Melbourne Girls College 5 for 126 to Trinity C Colac, 15 for 108. Congratulations to our Year 7 Cricket Team on winning the 2023 State Championships. This is a remarkable achievement; you should all be incredibly proud of yourselves.
