Outdoor Education

Well done to all the MGC students who participated in the Outdoor and Environmental Studies subject this year. Students from years 9, 10 and 11 have participated in many adventurous excursions and camps, demonstrating extraordinary teamwork, leadership, and organisational skills.

Students above from Semester 1 Year 9 Outdoor Education hiking through the challenging sand dune trails to some beautiful ocean view lookouts. The Year 9 students hiked along the coastal cliff trails of the Gadubanud country, Great Otways National Park.

Students showed great resilience when faced with challenging weather conditions of rain and wind. Particularly impressive was each student’s ability to support each other and demonstrate outstanding team work.

Year 9 Outdoor Education students also participated in indoor rock climbing, practicing teamwork and climbing skills.

Year 10 students challenged themselves bushwalking through the spectacular alpine environment of Taungarung country Mt Stirling, even experiencing some snowfall.

They also surfed and explored the Wadawurrung coastal environment of Anglesea. Throughout these experiences the students remarkably adapted their skills of leadership and cooperation.

The Outdoor and Environmental Studies 3/4 students completed two camps, firstly to the Boonwurrung country of Wilson’s Promontory National Park, exploring historical relationships with the natural environment and hiking to remote coastal campsites.

Secondly to the Djab Wurrung country of Gariwerd Grampians National Park. Students supported each other through rock climbing, abseiling, hiking, and camping in the spectacular Hollow Mountain area.

The OES students engaged in the topics of relationships with outdoor environments and sustainable healthy outdoor environments by meeting local Parks Rangers, assisting in weed removal, and planting endemic plant species in a revegetation area with WAMA a Trust for Nature.
