Assistant Principals' Report

Year 7-8 Acting Assistant Principal Report:

Katelyn Walters

As we approach the end of the year there is a lot to celebrate amongst the Year 7 and Year 8 students.

The Year 7’s are excited for their trip to Bounce on Monday 4 December, as part of this day they will also be participating in a secret gift exchange!

The Year 8’s will be attending the Funfields Theme Park on Tuesday 5 December, which is always a highlight for our Year 8 students!

Our Junior Ambassadors have begun their training and will put this to the test during the Year 7 Orientation Day coming up on the 12 December. Students will play a key leadership role in settling our new students into life at MGC; including supporting their buddies to navigate the transition into high school.

The Year 8 camp was a success, with students challenging themselves with challenge-by-choice activities. The dual flying fox, stand-up paddle boarding, and the games night were some of the many enjoyable experiences at Lake Dewar.

We are incredibly proud of our Year 7 and 8 students for all they have achieved and overcome this year, and we wish our families a well-deserved and happy break.

Year 10 Exams and Head Start

Well done to all of the Year 10 for their participation in exams, and Year 11 VCE and VM classes for 2024. The feedback was overwhelmingly positive from both staff and students.

Welcome to the new Year 11 and 12s 2024 – who also started with us this week and thank you to the students who embraced them and made them feel at ease. Starting a new school can be a scary experience – especially at the senior end of school, where you’ve also got VCAA demands.

A reminder that this program also involved students taking home holiday homework. This homework needs to be completed by the first school day back in Term 1 2024. Can families please remind their young person to complete this and it’s a great opportunity for them to discuss their subjects with you.

Any absent students need to contact their subject teacher to be directed to the work online (Compass), to ensure they are ready for the next step in their learning.

A big thank you to the VCE/VM team, Mei Francis in timetabling, and all of the teachers involved for making this work and making it such a great experience. It is a mean feat to be running two timetables concurrently with 120 different teaching staff, and 1200 students still onsite!

Year 10 Work Experience

Hopefully the deluge this week has not stopped our Year 10s from enjoying experiencing a possible future industry, during Work Experience this week. Teachers have already been blocked out for work place visits and I look forward to hearing from everyone.

I will miss being their Assistant Principal in 2024, but am already passing on all their great achievements to their new 11-12 Assistant Principal – Ms. Katherine Warriner.

Year 9

Just on that – I am excited to be working with our current Year 9s as Year 10s in 2024. I was lucky enough to meet many of them as award winners and performers on our fantastic presentation evening.

Ms. Katelyn Walters sent me through some of their amazing culinary work – as they designed sausage rolls with global flavours from Greece all the way to Mexico! Delicious photos below:

Year 11-12 Acting Assistant Principal Report:

Kate Nicholls

As we approach the culmination of the academic year 2023, it is a privilege to be able to celebrate and reflect on the notable achievements of our Senior Students at MGC, both within our school community and in the broader context as the year draws to a close.

I extend my heartfelt congratulations to our accomplished Year 12s who have successfully concluded their educational journey at MGC and are now eagerly anticipating their results on the 11th of December 2023. We extend our best wishes to them as they embark on their future endeavours and career paths. As we reach another end to Year 12, I would like to reflect on the wonderful achievement of our 2022 dual dux, Amy Deller and Greta Clark- Walsh who received a 99.6.

The Year 11 cohort of 2023 has demonstrated commendable dedication by completing their Unit 2 examinations. This accomplishment not only signifies their academic ability but also showcases the development of essential study skills and examination techniques that will undoubtedly serve them well as they approach their final year in 2024. As they transition into HeadStart and delve into Unit 3 content, it is encouraging to witness the enthusiasm in the study centre, with new students entering VCE from year 10 and the Year 12s of 2024 eagerly planning for their upcoming study camp in February.

I would like to express my sincere appreciation to the dedicated staff who have played an instrumental role in guiding and supporting the Year 11 and 12 students throughout this academic year. From subject teachers to extracurricular instructors and invaluable Year Level Leaders, your tireless efforts have contributed significantly to the growth and success of our students across all facets of their education. I extend my thanks to parents and guardians who, with unwavering dedication, lent their invaluable support to our students throughout the entirety of 2023.

As we approach the holiday period, I wish each of you a restful and joyful break. May you return to MGC in 2024 rejuvenated, and prepared to enter the next year of your schooling at MGC.
