Sports Report

On Thursday 1st August 2024, selected Year 9/10 students participated in the Intermediate Basketball Competition at Eagle Stadium.

Boys/Mixed Recap

Our boys were placed in a challenging group with the likes of The Grange and Truganina in our Pool (A). However, with Michel Nimi (Year 10) and Harley Nisbet (Year 9) leading our boys, we were confident in our abilities.

However, we were successful in making it all the way to the Grand Final! Unfortunately, losing by 7 points to Hoppers Crossing.

FOOTBALL ACADEMY

On Wednesday 31st July our Year 9-10 boys and girls played in the Western Regional Metropolitan finals. The boys played at City Vista Sports Field, Fraser Rise and the girls played at Keilor Park Stadium, Keilor.

Match results below:

Y9-10 Boys – Group Games

WCC Results

The boys lost their opening group game 0-7 to Maribyrnong Sports Academy. They outplayed Lakeview Secondary College but lost the game 0-2 to LSC who were clinical in putting away their chances. In the final group game, the boys ran our 4-3 winners against Strathmore Secondary College. The boys finished 3rd in their group and did not qualify for the final.

Y9-10 Girls - Group Games

WCC vs Southern Cross Grammar

We had chance after chance to score but the SCG goalkeeper called forth the power of 10 Manuel Neuer’s and kept getting her hands, feet and body to numerous goal bound attempts. Our girls secured a narrow 1-0 win in the opening group game.

WCC vs Strathmore Secondary College

In a physical game our girls ran out 2-0 winners with a goal in each half. We controlled the game from start to finish and didn’t allow SSC to register a shot on goal. With this result our girls finished top of our group and qualified to play off in the final against the winner of the other group.

Western Metropolitan Region Final

WCC vs Western Heights

Our girls started confidently and matched WH in the early stages of the game. As the game settled WH started to win crucial balls in the midfield and used their greater match fitness to outplay our girls for a period of 10 minutes, in which we conceded 4 goals. The focus at half time was for our girls to challenge themselves and win their individual contests on the pitch. We played better in the second half and had a couple of great chances on goal. WH scored another goal in the second half after an errant back pass from one of our defenders to our keeper resulted in an own goal.

Our Y9-10 girls finished Runners Up in the Western Metropolitan Region for 2024 and received a pennant as reward for their efforts in the competition this year.

Special thanks to Chris Palatsides and Octavio Montalvo who worked with the boys on the day. Thanks to all the teachers who supported us in the various age groups and stages of the interschool soccer competitions this year.

Please congratulate our Y9-10 Boys and Girls on their run into the WMR finals and their performances on the day.
