Year 8 & 9
Assistant Principal's Report
Thank you in advance for taking the time to read your child’s school newsletter, learning is so much better when there is a partnership with families. It was great to see so many of you at last term’s Night at the Museum where our students showcased their achievements in Humanities.
The winners of the various categories were announced at assembly this week and certificates and prizes awarded.
We’ve run a number of assemblies in the first two weeks back in term 3 including ones that celebrated learning based on the results from semester one, and assemblies that celebrated our cultural diversity for Multicultural week.
I’m sure it will feature heavily in other articles in this edition but not enough can be said about the wonderful work our students have put into Multicultural week 2024. From their cultural dress and fashion parade, to all of the performances that have been put on over the week in break times. I am sure many parents would be proud of their children taking the time to learn traditional dances and then sharing them with the wider school community.
These cultural student groups will have the chance to perform again at our community 50th year celebration event on October 17th and parents are also invited to this so you will have the opportunity to see these performances in person.
This term is going to be full of opportunities for your child to experience both in the classroom and in extra-curricular activities. Even though it is only August we are already firmly facing 2025 with students picking subjects for next year. We had a successful Pathways Week, and many of you have already signed off on your child’s 2025 preferences.
I’d like to thank Mr Ewan Slater for filling in while Mr Allan Nilsen took some well-deserved leave. Mr Slater will continue to support the Year 8 team for the remainder of the year. I’d like to also wish the best of luck to our Inclusion Leader Mrs Katina Dukellis as she takes some time for leave to welcome a new addition to the family.

Year Level Leader's Report Year 8
It has been great to see our Year 8's arrive back fresh-faced and ready to go. The students have been faced with a lot of new things to think about, and it has been great to see they’ve hit the ground running as we move into Semester two.
Early this term we completed a Ready to Learn Blitz, where every student reviewed the condition of their binder and was supported with various resources to get their binders in good condition again. Ms Cole, our AVID leader, was ecstatic to have so many students working on this, and making sure they were properly set up for the Term!
Week 1 and 2 started with Sub-school assemblies providing an opportunity to celebrate a wide wealth of student achievements across Semester One. Night at the Museum, our Humanities Showpiece Expo was a roaring success as always.
Huge congratulations to the following students:

Week 2 was also Pathways week, where our students begin to select their elective subjects for 2025. It was great to see so many students and parents at the Subject Expo.
Student of the Week
A massive congratulations for our two Students of the Week Award Winners, Rubi Hindle of 8A for consistently striving to achieve her best, and Annah Parmar of 8H for consistently being Ready to Learn and striving for Excellence.
As always, our students were excited about Multicultural week, and the celebrations of diversity and the inclusive nature of the week serves as a great reminder of the strength of our community, and the role our students play in this.
The Year 8's have Science Week, Book Week, and the School Play, Shuddersome Tales of Poe to look forward to for the remainder of Term 3, all of which will surely be spectacular.

Year Level Leader's Report Year 9
Our Year 9's have continued to kick goals throughout Term 3.
It was wonderful to see the Year 9s engage with several different university, TAFE and program providers during our Pathways week expos. Several compliments have been paid to the student on their behaviour and interactions with everyone involved. Thank you, to all the year 9's who have completed their 2025 Web Preferences so efficiently.
Assemblies have continued to be a place of celebration and community. This term we have recognised the different achievements of the students in Term 2 with our celebration assembly held in Week 1. We presented our second Values Champion in Tristan Guileno of 9S. Our Values Champion is the student with the most student of the week nominations for the term. Well done Tristan!
We were also able to recognise the following students who were also awarded student of the week in late term 2/early Term 3.
Week 11 – Sheiler Moo Thang Maung of 9A for both her excellent work throughout the term and her leadership in 9A and organisation of the assembly.
Week 1 (Term 3) – Hunter Fathers-Rattray of 9A for an excellent start to the term with multiple nominations, maintaining the high level he has set all year.
Week 2 - Annabella Mesiti of 9B for consistently nominated for both high standards of work and maintaining a good example for her peers.
Well done again to those students for their hard work and cooperation.
We ended our Celebration Assembly by announcing the highly anticipated winners of our Tutor Challenge competition. Each term we award points to tutor groups based on attendance, uniform, and our weekly assembly challenges. 9S were determined to retain the title of Challenge Champions but alas fell short, coming in equal 4th place with 9G and 9C. It was a tightly ran race towards the end between 9B and 9E with just one point separating them in the final weeks. 9E, in the end, were crowned victors and hoisted the cup proudly in celebration. Fantastic work 9E and congratulations.
Our Term 3 challenge was off to strong start thanks to a “name that flag” quiz. Term 3 current results are as follows:
9A | 9B | 9C | 9D | 9E | 9F | 9G | 9H | 9J | 9S |
3 | 0 | 1 | 0 | 2 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 5 |
It is still early days in the terms with a number of challenges and competitions to go.
Many of our students achieved outstanding results in their final NAPLAN tests. Students were presented with a certificate from our Assistant Principal, Ms Faranda. Well done again to those students.
Last week saw the College celebrate our diverse and inclusive culture with our Multicultural week. Several of our Year 9 students performed throughout the week. It was wonderful to see the students engage and share in each other’s diversity.
I look forward to watching as our students continue to work towards their Term 3 goals and into the final stretches of 2024.
