Our Learning for Term 2, Weeks 6 & 7

We are again nearing the end of another term already. Where is the time going? Weeks 5 and 6 were very exciting for our Preps with a visit from local paramedics and police. They were so kind to let every student climb up into their ambulance, put some costumes on and see the flashing lights. The students were given opportunities to ask questions and loved seeing the vehicles and uniforms close up.

In English, students will:

  • learn to read and write phonemes Stage 2 and 3 letter-sounds and identify these sounds in simple CVC words.

  • identify and say first, middle and final sounds in different words

  • segment and blend CVC words and sentences.

  • begin to spell words more independently using their awareness of letter sounds.

  • identify what makes a sentence and identify nouns and verbs.

  • sequence and retell events in the order they occur in different stories.

  • predict what will happen in a story.

  • make text to self-connections and identify main ideas in a text.
  • infer details about a character or event using clues from pictures in a book.

In Maths, students will:

  • continue to use the 100 days of school chart to count and order numbers.
  • continue to develop their addition strategies including:

    • using ninja belts to show and explain combinations of numbers up to 10.
    • how to solve worded problems.
    • counting on from the biggest number in an addition equation to find the total altogether
    • identifying and using addition symbols + and =.

In Inquiry, students will explore:

  • the difference between toys in the past and the present.

how their lives have changed from the past to present.

In SEL, students will:

  • remember and practise our classroom and school routines.
  • recognise strategies to self-calm themselves when they are sad or mad
  • practise help-seeking conversations

News and Reminders:

This helps your child's teacher to acknowledge, celebrate and support your child's development further.
  • Stay Updated on Your Child’s Learning. Please check Compass regularly to see information about your child’s assessments and progress. Compass also keeps you informed about important events and any changes at school.
