Our Learning - Weeks 6 & 7

The Outcomes are based on the Victorian Early Years Learning and Development Framework (VEYLDF). The VEYLDF is a curriculum framework designed for early childhood education in Victoria, focusing on children birth to eight years.

Outcome 1: Children have a strong sense of identity

Children are continuing to develop a strong sense of identity as they confidently engage in kindergarten routines and make independent choices about their learning. Through following familiar routines, such as arrival procedures, group times and meal times, children are building a sense of belonging and confidence within the environment. They are increasingly demonstrating autonomy by selecting learning spaces that reflect their interests, strengths, and curiosities.

Outcome 2: Children are connected with and contribute to their world

Children are developing an understanding of how they can contribute to their environment through everyday recycling and composting practices. By sorting old markers, foil, soft plastics, and paper into designated recycling stations, children are learning about sustainability and responsible waste management. Children also participate in composting food scraps, learning how organic waste can be reused to support healthy soil and plant growth. These experiences help children recognise that their actions can make a positive difference to the environment.

Outcome 3: Children have a strong sense of wellbeing

Children are developing their wellbeing through positive relationships, active play, and opportunities to build independence throughout the kindergarten day. They are learning to recognise and express their emotions, seek support when needed, and develop resilience when faced with challenges. Through engaging in physical activity, routines, and social interactions, children are building confidence and a sense of belonging in the kindergarten environment.

Outcome 4: Children are confident and involved learners

Over the past fortnight, children have been extending their learning by exploring patterns in nature, using natural materials. Through close observation and hands-on experiences, they are beginning to recognise, describe, and recreate these patterns using a range of resources.

Children have also been extending their understanding of weight, engaging in activities where they compare, balance, and test different objects to determine which are heavier or lighter. These investigations are encouraging them to ask questions, make predictions, and trial their ideas, strengthening their problem-solving skills, critical thinking, and confidence as active learners.

Outcome 5: Children are effective communicators

Children are beginning to use symbols and drawings to represent their ideas, recognising that communication can take many forms. Children are also developing early literacy skills by signing in their names at the start of the day and practising writing their names on their work.
