Year 1/2 Unit

It has been a busy and exciting few weeks in the Year 1/2 wing!
We loved welcoming so many visitors into our classrooms last Friday, and students were proud to share their portraits with their families. Opportunities like these are always special, allowing students to celebrate and showcase their learning with those around them.
Last week, students also participated in an eSmart incursion where they learnt about using technology safely and responsibly, both at home and at school. They explored the concepts of content and compulsion when engaging with digital platforms.
In Literacy, we have been exploring a range of explanation texts to deepen our understanding of text structure and broaden our vocabulary. Students have eagerly begun applying this new language and knowledge within their own writing pieces. Last week, students made a toy catapult and then drafted an explanation text, to explain how the catapult works.
In Maths, students have started a new unit on Patterns. Students have thoroughly enjoyed investigating a variety of patterns. They began by creating their own patterns using objects, shapes, and colours before moving on to explore number patterns and recognise the repeated rules within sequences.
Over the coming weeks, as part of our Inquiry unit on Forces, students will continue their learning through a hands-on toy incursion and a visit to our local Children’s Park. These experiences will support students in exploring forces and investigating how things work in the world around them.
Students will receive, or may have already received, their High Frequency Word Books this week. This program supports the development of reading and spelling skills, and we encourage students to practise these words regularly at home.
We have had a busy and rewarding start to the term and look forward to all the learning and experiences still to come.
