Victorian Careers & Employment Expo is open from March 19 to 21, 2026 at the Melbourne Showgrounds. The Expo will showcase over 130 organisations and employers with career opportunities for all ages. Entry is free.
The event is for school students, parents, teachers, graduates, job seekers, people looking for courses, and workers seeking new opportunities.

Girls' Programming Network Term 1 for Students in Year 8+ - 21st March
This workshop is for high school students (Year 8 onwards). In this workshop you’ll be looking at Markov chains, which are a great introduction to Artificial Intelligence! You’ll make a program that can create new sentences based on books, song lyrics or anything you want! This project is very similar to the programming in your phone that tries to suggest the next word you want to write in your text messages, and can be used for all kinds of fun things like writing the next Taylor Swift song or the long awaited “Green Eggs and Ham” sequel!
Price:This event is totally free! UniMelb are providing a day of coding, snacks, and fun for everyone. If you can't make it after registering, please cancel your ticket. They have a long waiting list, and it's super important that you let them know if you can't attend.
Location: GPN is going down at the OLD ENGINEERING SCHOOL (BUILDING 173) at the University of Melbourne, Parkville Campus.
Catering: They'll be serving up some delicious pizza for lunch, along with fruit, chocolate, and lollies to keep you going throughout the day. They can accommodate vegetarians as well as lactose and gluten intolerances. If you have any other dietary needs, you'll need to bring your own food. Make sure to pack a lunch that doesn't need to be refrigerated.
Remember to bring a water bottle to stay hydrated - water taps are available around the building.
What do you need to bring to the workshop? Just bring yourself! You don't need to bring a printed ticket, or a tablet/laptop or any other device with you on the day of the event. Simply come along ready to learn lots and have fun while coding some cool stuff!

Home - Girls' Programming Network - Term 1
Spark Engineering Camp (year 10-12 students)
Spark is an annual residential program held during the winter school holidays (6th-11th July) at the University of Melbourne. It supports students from a wide range of backgrounds to explore engineering and STEM through hands-on activities, personal development workshops, and exposure to university life. The program is completely free, with travel, food, and accommodation covered. How do students apply? Students fill out the student application. A nominator fills out the nominator form. A student nominator can be the student's parent, guardian, teacher, counsellor, etc. This is what will be used to justify which students will receive a Spark Engineering Camp scholarship. A student’s application is only eligible once the accompanying nomination form has been submitted. Both forms must be submitted by the 29th of March at 4pm AEST. Girl Power in Engineering and IT (year 9 students)
A program for female high school students, contributing towards gender parity in engineering and IT disciplines. For girls from Australia with an interest in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
Inspiring female students about the exciting possibilities of Engineering and IT through the Girl Power program, including a three-night camp at the University of Melbourne, work experience and mentoring opportunities.

Trades Experience - 26th March
Join RMIT at their Trades Experience to take the first step towards a career in trades.
At the Trades Innovation Centre, you'll experience four interactive stations where you'll rotate through four hands-on stations led by RMIT teachers and students. The Trades Innovation Centre is where students learn to use industry-standard equipment in cutting-edge facilities, experience teaching simulations and develop the practical skills they need for their future trade.
You'll have the chance to chat to folks from all over RMIT who specialise in application support, apprenticeship support, women in STEM and pathways.
The RMIT Skills & Jobs Centre will also be available for one-on-one chats and can give you expert guidance on how you can reach your career goals.
RMIT Trades Experience - RMIT University
April School Holiday Campus Tours (13th-17th April)
This is your chance to explore the RMIT campus of your choice and see how their cutting-edge facilities will help you develop job-ready skills. The tours are your chance to walk and talk with RMIT academics and/or student ambassadors .The tours will run for a week during the April school holidays and will cover their three Melbourne campuses: the iconic Melbourne City campus, the state-of-the-art creative spaces at the Brunswick campus, and the high-tech marvels of the Bundoora campus. For those who are interested in seeing more, there will also be optional accommodation tours at the end of each session.Before the tours, you’ll sit through a presentation with their staff, curated based on the interest area session you have chosen. You will also have a chance to speak to staff and students about RMIT and our facilities, so bring your parents and friends along to get all your questions answered. But that’s not all – they will also be holding a raffle after each session. If you win you could score your choice of RMIT merch. To enter, all you need to do is attend one of the tours.

La Trobe have partnered with the Victorian Challenge and Enrichment Series to provide programs to Victorian Government school students. Students in Years 7-12 are invited to the Meet an Enviro Scientist panel event to hear from La Trobe University environmental scientists and industry professionals. Are you aged 15-17 and curious about the dairy industry? A Next Gen Dairy program is being planned. GippsDairy is exploring interest for a 3-day program during the April 2026 school holidays, designed for young people who want to gain a deeper understanding of the dairy sector — from farm to factory and beyond!

The Victorian Careers Show 2026 is teacher-founded and teacher-led, connecting VCE students, teachers, jobseekers and parents with Victoria's top universities, TAFEs, training providers, employers and career experts. It is designed to help high school students, parents, teachers, and jobseekers explore study and employment pathways. It brings together universities, TAFEs, training providers, employers, and career advisers in one location to provide practical information about courses, apprenticeships, and career options.
The event aims to support informed decision-making about future study and work choices through exhibits and VCE seminar presentations.

Work Experience
Work Experience (WE)/Structured Workplace learning (SWL)/School Based Apprenticeships/Traineeships (SBAT)
Work experience is available to students that are 15+ years old.
SWL is available to students doing a VET Course in their VCE/VM Pathway.
SBAT’s are available to Year 10-12 students through our Headstart Program by application and availability only.

Swinburne University Work Experience (ages 15+)
Swinburne University of Technology welcomes senior secondary students to participate in work experience at the university. These one-week placements give students the opportunity to work with their academics and professional staff and to:
• develop employability skills
• explore possible career options
• understand employer expectations
• build self-understanding, maturity, independence and self-confidence
Engineering
Program overview
Students will experience different disciplines of Engineering at Swinburne.
Students will have a chance to:
• Gain knowledge about different Engineering disciplines including Civil, Mechanical, Electrical & Electronics, Biomedical, Robotics & Mechatronics, and Software Engineering.
• Learn about relevant cutting-edge research and real-world engineering applications.
• Work in laboratories and gain exposure to emerging areas such as Renewable Energy Systems.
• Undertake a short project during their stay, encouraging independent learning and problem-solving skills.
• Spend time with current Swinburne engineering students on campus, including involvement with FSAE teams assisting with vehicle design, testing, and build activities.
• Inspect a Hybrid Electric Vehicle designed and built by Swinburne engineering students.
• Attend information sessions about Swinburne’s engineering offerings and future career pathways.

Defence Work Experience Programs (ages 15+)
The ADF are pleased to invite high school students aged 15–18 years to participate in Defence’s Work Experience Programs being delivered across Victoria in 2026. These youth‑focused programs introduce students to the wide range of career pathways available within the Australian Defence Force (ADF), including the Navy, Army and Air Force, as well as the Australian Public Service (APS).

Nangak Tamboree Wildlife Sanctuary Work Experience (year 9 & 10 students, 15+)
Nangak's Work Experience Program is designed to foster new skills in young people, create an awareness and appreciation of the conservation and biodiversity management industry and demonstrate the breadth of career opportunities in environmental science, research and education.
Successful applicants may assist in the following areas of the Sanctuary:
- land management
- plant production
- education
- biodiversity
- marketing, promotion & interpretation
- office & administration
- workshops & tours
The Nangak Tamboree Wildlife Sanctuary cannot offer any opportunities to work with animals.
Work Experience placements run for one week from Monday to Friday on pre-selected dates throughout the year. Normal working hours are from 9.30am until 4.00pm. As part of your placement, you will be required to undertake some structured learning activities.
There are 4 places available for each of the placement weeks listed below. A maximum of two students can come from the same school for the same placement week.

Northern Health Work Experience (ages 15+)
As the key provider of public health care in Melbourne’s Northern Region, Northern Health offer a comprehensive Work Experience Program for high school students. Their tailored approach aims to provide a meaningful program of activity over a standard working week.
Based on availability, students can nominate their preferred placements and locations. Grandshake Virtual Work Experience (ages 14-19)
Grandshake offers a ton of awesome Virtual Work Experience programs for young people across Australia aged 14-19. These programs are a great way to get a taste of your dream career, all from your own home. And they help you learn some valuable skills along the way as well. The programs run all year, during school and the holidays, so you can sign up to start at any time. The programs typically run for four weeks, with a 2-4 hour commitment per week. Best of all, they’re totally free.
