Creativity and science came together in Year 8 when Ethan wrote a song to help remember the first 20 elements of the periodic table. Using verses and a chorus, Ethan turned Hydrogen through to Calcium into a catchy set of lyrics that makes learning chemistry both fun and memorable.
( Verse 1)
Hydrogen, Helium, start the line
Lithium, Beryllium, doing fine
Boron, Carbon, life's own base
Nitrogen, Oxygen, all over the place.
( Chorus)
Fluorine, Neon, glowing bright
Sodium, Magnesium, shinning light
Aluminium, Silicon, strong and grand
Phosphorus, Sulphur, across the land
( Verse 2)
Chlorine, Argon, noble and stable
Potassium, Calcium, finish the table
One through twenty, now you know
The elements keep our world aglow.

We have had an awesome start to Metalwork in Year 8. Students began the term learning about workshop safety and how to correctly use the tools and equipment in the metalwork room. Once they understood the safety requirements, they moved on to designing their own candle holders.
Students showed great creativity in their designs and carefully planned how they would shape and finish their metal. As you can see from the photos, the designs were very creative and each student produced something unique.
It has been fantastic to see students developing practical skills while also expressing their creativity through their designs.

Students in Woodwork have been busy developing their practical skills by creating their own small tables. Throughout the project, students have been learning how to measure accurately, cut timber, assemble pieces, and sand their work to achieve a smooth finish. It has been great to see the focus and effort students are putting into their projects as their tables begin to take shape. Not only are they building valuable workshop skills, but they are also creating something practical they can be proud of.

Students in Cooking have been busy in the kitchen making delicious raspberry and pear muffins. During the lesson, students practiced important kitchen skills such as measuring ingredients, mixing batter, and safely using kitchen equipment. It was great to see everyone working together and following the recipe to create their muffins. The classroom was filled with wonderful aromas, and students were proud of the tasty treats they made to enjoy and share.

On Tuesday 17th March, 65 Year 8 students stepped back in time for Medieval Day!
Students enjoyed a range of hands-on activities, including playing medieval games, trying on chain mail, making their own mail, and even firing a bow and arrow. It was a fantastic experience for everyone involved.
A big thank you to the East Gippsland Historical Society and its members for making the day so engaging and memorable!
