Term 3 has been a fantastic term for sport at Loreto, with students representing the school across a wide range of Ballarat Associated Schools (BAS) competitions and events. From netball and chess to culinary competitions, after-school sport and cross country, our students have demonstrated outstanding commitment, teamwork, and LC spirit.
Netball Victoria School Championships
Congratulations to our three netball teams who competed at the Netball Victoria School Championships at the State Netball Centre in early September.
Playing against some of the best school netballers in Victoria, our students demonstrated grit, determination, and professionalism throughout the competition.
Our Senior A and Intermediate A teams both finished third in their pools, while our Intermediate B team secured a wildcard entry and competed strongly throughout the day. Our teams also proudly took to the court in their new Loreto College Ballarat netball uniforms.
A big thank you to our coaches for the many hours of coaching, training, selection and mentoring that went into preparing our students to compete at such a high level. Congratulations to everyone involved!
Victorian Basketball Championships
Congratulations to Airlie - Year 9 who competed in the Australian U16 National Basketball Championships representing Country Victoria and won! Her team was the first U16 Victorian Country Women's team to win since 1990 - a remarkable achievement.
Grace Conquers the USA
A massive congratulations to Grace, who has been busy breaking records over in Oregon at the 2026 U20 World Athletics Championships during August, competing in the 4x100m relay!
Grace and her teammates raced in the final, finishing 4th. An incredibly impressive achievement on the world stage and a testament to the hard work Grace has put into her running

BAS Chess Competition
On 11 August, five Loreto students, Evelyn Driscoll, Imogen Borg, Isabelle Hanley, Autumn Hains and Francessca Skyrme, competed in the BAS Chess Championships at St Patrick’s College.
Each student played five rounds throughout the competition, finishing with an impressive 11 points collectively. Their strong performance has seen them qualify for the Victorian Chess Competition in Term 4.
Congratulations to our chess team on this fantastic achievement, and we wish them all the best as they prepare for the next stage of the competition.
Term 3 BAS After-School Sport
A big thank you goes to all the students who committed to BAS after-school sport throughout Term 3. This term, Loreto students competed in Senior Netball, Table Tennis, Junior Hockey and Junior Football.
With three Senior Netball teams also taking to the court each week, there has been plenty of opportunity for students to get involved, compete, and build connections with their teammates.
We are incredibly proud of everyone who committed to training and competing each week. Their enthusiasm, teamwork and LC spirit have made Term 3 a successful season of BAS sport.
Cross Country Success
Term 3 has also been a particularly successful one for Loreto Cross Country, with students competing across three major events: the Road Relays, Cross Country at Victoria Park and the Lap of the Lake.
Congratulations to all students who participated across these three challenging events. Competing in cross country requires determination, resilience and commitment, and every student who represented Loreto should be proud of their achievements.
Loreto College has enjoyed an outstanding term of cross country, taking out the win at the majority of events. This is a fantastic reflection of the dedication and hard work of our runners and the support of those who have helped them throughout the season.

Finally, a huge thank you to Mr Blackwood and Mrs Russell for the incredible amount of time, effort and organisation they have put into BAS sport and cross country this term. The opportunities provided to our students would not be possible without the dedication of our staff and coaches.
From the courts and fields to the chessboard and kitchen, Term 3 has been a fantastic celebration of competition, teamwork, commitment and LC spirit. Congratulations to every Loreto student who has participated and represented our school this term.
