Mother Gonzaga Barry Day

If there is one day of the year that shows who we are as Loreto people it is Gonzaga Barry Day. 151 years ago Mother Gonzaga Barry and her nine companions came to Ballarat to begin our story. It is a Loreto story that we are all incredibly proud to be a part of. Gonzaga Barry Day is a day filled with fun, chaos and laughter, however, it is also a day that we reflect on what it is to be a Catholic community, a Loreto community. 

This year our community has raised much needed funds for Mary Ward International Australia. We have explored four projects in Timor Leste, South Sudan, India and also Peru. We are who we are because of the Loreto sisters saying yes and being faithful to Grace. As a Loreto community we say yes and we answer the call of Mary Ward International to learn about and give so that others are the beneficiaries of being Loreto. 

As Fr Justin Driscoll said this morning at our Eucharist celebration, raising funds is important, so too is raising awareness so that we hear the cry of the poor and cry of our earth. 

Mother Gonzaga Barry said that we are all called to make this world a better place simply because we are in it. God bless our Loreto communities throughout the world.
