BAS Cooking Competition

On 28 August, four of our Year 11 students represented Loreto College Ballarat at the BAS Culinary Competition, competing against St Patrick’s College and Clarendon College.

Our students were cool, calm and collected as they put their culinary skills to the test, taking out first place for the third consecutive year!

Emily and Arabella represented Loreto in the main course, producing a delicious Gnocchi Ragu. Their dish featured lamb shoulder pressure-cooked in a rich sauce made with mirepoix, tomatoes and beef stock. They also prepared fresh potato and cheese gnocchi from scratch to accompany the ragu.

Emme and Lily prepared a spectacular profiterole dish for the dessert course. Their dish featured homemade choux pastry filled with whipped coconut cream and accompanied by four sauces, all made from raw ingredients: banana caramel, strawberry and raspberry, Nutella and lemon curd.

All elements were made from raw ingredients, with the students developing their recipe ideas themselves and attending multiple after-school practice sessions in preparation for the competition.

Congratulations to our Year 11 students on a wonderful achievement and thank you to St Patrick’s College for hosting this year’s competition and welcoming our students into their kitchens.
