Year 12 Lake Walk & Talk

The Week 4 - Walk & Talk saw our Year 12 students gather before school for a leisurely walk along the lake, followed by a shared breakfast. This enjoyable event provided a valuable opportunity for students to slow down, connect with their peers, and begin the day with a positive mindset. The Lake Walk & Talk also reinforced the importance of healthy habits, including regular physical activity and positive social connections, both of which play a vital role in supporting overall wellbeing.

Healthy Study Habits

‘Healthy study habits are essential for children to learn effectively, manage stress, and ultimately achieve their academic potential. Yet, in an age where distractions are plentiful and the pressure to perform is immense, it's more important than ever for us, as parents and caregivers, to guide our children in cultivating these habits.’

Creating a dedicated study space free from distractions and establishing regular study routines can help students consolidate their classroom learning and develop effective study habits. Encouraging young people to review their work regularly, take short breaks during study sessions, and avoid last-minute cramming can strengthen learning outcomes while reducing stress.

Equally important is maintaining a healthy balance. Adequate sleep, a nutritious diet, and regular physical activity all play a significant role in a young person's ability to learn, concentrate and perform at their best.

Pride in Schools

The annual Ballarat Pride in Schools Day was held in August, bringing together young people and school staff for a vibrant day of connection, learning and community-building. Developed through Y Ballarat’s Diversity & Inclusion Project and delivered in partnership with Qhub, the event created a welcoming space where students could explore identity, celebrate diversity, and strengthen their sense of belonging. Throughout the day, participants engaged in workshops designed to build leadership skills, confidence and self‑advocacy, alongside practical sessions focused on self‑care, wellbeing and respectful relationships.

The program encouraged students to share experiences, support one another, and recognise the importance of inclusive school cultures. By highlighting real stories and offering guided activities, the event empowered young people to develop the tools needed to foster positive connections within their schools and the wider community. Pride in Schools Day not only celebrates the richness of LGBTQIA+ identities but also reinforces the message that every student deserves to feel safe, valued and supported, both in the classroom and beyond.
