Voice of the Students

Year 6

For our Year 6 students, one of the most meaningful parts of preparing for the Sacrament of Confirmation was choosing a Confirmation saint. This was an important decision, as each student’s chosen saint became a role model and source of inspiration throughout their faith journey. In the lead-up to Confirmation, students spent time researching a wide variety of saints, learning about their lives, values and the ways they demonstrated courage, kindness and faith. After careful thought and reflection, each student selected a saint who held personal significance for them.

For many students, their choice reflected a special connection to their own lives. Some chose a saint because of their family heritage or cultural background, while others selected a saint from a country that is meaningful to their family. Some were inspired by a saint’s character, interests or life experiences, choosing someone whose qualities they admired and hoped to emulate.

Our students shared why they chose their Confirmation saint:

”I have a family connection with my saint because I’m going to St Bedes and my dad went to De La Salle and he also teaches at St Bedes. St John the Baptist De La Salle  is the Patron Saint of teachers and started schools all over the world so everyone had access to education . ”

Tyson Laska, who chose St John The Baptist De La Salle.

”St George is a martyr who  showed great courage and bravery. He died as he continued to serve God even though he had been threatened with death. He is the patron Saint of England as well as soldiers, scouts and riders. My grandfather's name is George .”

Jakob Tickner , who chose St George

St Albert the Great is the Patron Saint of scientists, teachers and students. I chose him because he has the same name as my grandpa. I was intrigued by how he was and was the leading scientist of his time and mastered all scientific categories including geology

Max Molnar , who chose St Albert the Great
