The Kid's Lit Quiz Team had an amazing time in Sydney competing in the National Titles. They arrived in Sydney on Sunday morning and spent the day sightseeing and taking a ride on the ferry to Watsons Bay. They were lucky enough to experience the Vivid light Festival on Sunday night. Monday was competition day. The titles were held in the State Library of NSW. 350 schools across Australia have been competing to make the final 17 at the national titles. Teams were asked a total of 70 questions to test their knowledge on young adult literature from categories such as titles, authors, and sidekicks. This was Sandringham College's first time in the competition, and to make the Nationals was an exceptional result. The girls are already talking about going one better next year and winning.
It was a fantastic opportunity for these four girls to represent the college in something that they have a huge passion for. Their knowledge blows me away sometimes and this competition has allowed them to shine and be celebrated in an interest that usually goes unrecognised.
Over the last few weeks, a highly competitive annual chess tournament was held in the library during lunchtime. The tournament featured 12 students, all vying for the championship title, which was ultimately won by Ezra P.
We are looking at holding a competition in the second half of the year in the Holloway library, with the two campus champions competing for the college championship.
