A Busy and Positive Start to the Term

It’s hard to believe we are already four weeks into the term! The time has absolutely flown by, and it has been wonderful to see how well students have settled into their routines. Over the past few weeks, students have been finding their feet in new classes, reconnecting with friends, and building positive relationships with their teachers. Classrooms have been full of energy as students engage in new learning topics, set goals for the term, and begin establishing strong study habits.

We have also been focusing on reinforcing our school values, expectations, and creating a positive learning environment where everyone feels safe and supported. It has been pleasing to see so many students demonstrating respect, responsibility, and a willingness to give things a go.

Tech School Visit

This week, our students had the exciting opportunity to engage with the Tech School when they came to visit, where they took part in a hands-on running experiment exploring speed, timing and data collection.

Using digital timing equipment, tripods and tablets, students tested their sprinting abilities while collecting accurate performance data. They investigated how technology can be used to measure speed and reaction time and discussed how athletes and sports scientists use similar tools to improve performance.

Students worked collaboratively to set up the equipment, record results and analyse the data collected. It was fantastic to see everyone so engaged – both in the physical challenge and in the scientific thinking behind the experiment. There were plenty of smiles, friendly competition and great teamwork throughout the session. A big thank you to Tech School for providing such an interactive and practical learning experience. 

Fun in Science 

Our Year 8 students have been diving into the exciting world of chemical reactions through a hands-on, round robin experiment lesson. Students rotated through a series of practical stations, conducting experiments such as combining magnesium with hydrochloric acid and mixing baking soda with vinegar. These experiments created some interesting reactions, including bubbling, fizzing and noticeable temperature changes, which sparked plenty of curiosity and discussion.

At each station, students carefully recorded their observations and analysed the evidence to determine whether the changes they observed were physical or chemical. This helped them build a deeper understanding of how to identify signs of a chemical reaction, such as gas production, colour change, or the formation of a new substance.

School Photos 

School Photos will be taking place next Friday 27th February. Students are required to wear their full and correct school uniform on this day. Please ensure your child is well presented and arrives on time so they do not miss their scheduled photo session.

If your child is absent on photo day, a catch-up session will be held on Wednesday 4th March. We look forward to seeing everyone looking their best! 📸

Year 8 Resilience Camp 2026

A friendly reminder to all Year 8 families that camp approval forms and payment are due by Friday 27th February.

Camp is always a highlight of the year and a solid opportunity for students to build friendships, develop resilience, and challenge themselves in new and exciting ways. We are really looking forward to sharing this experience with our Year 8 cohort!
