Year 2 Newsletter
Term 2 Week 4 2026 - Friday 15th May
What have we been up to?
We have been so active in our year two classes! It was a busy lead up to Mother’s Day and the students made beautiful flower cards for their Mothers and special loved ones. We also visited the Mothers Day stall and purchased some fantastic gifts! The year two students really enjoyed making, and buying, very special items for all our Mums. We hope that you all had a beautiful Mother’s Day last Sunday.
Leader in Me Lessons
This week the students were learning about empathy. They have also been learning about how they use their whole body to listen and communicate effectively. How do we use our eyes and ears? What does our heart feel like when we see different things?
In Literacy, we are continuing to learn about information texts. The students have been writing information texts about animal legs. We completed this as a whole class activity and then the students wrote their own information texts, with accompanying pictures, on Friday. These past two weeks, we have been learning about puppies and kittens and their needs. again, we complete this as a whole class activity and the students write their own sentences on Fridays.

In Maths, we have been learning about measurement, specifically length. We have been identifying suitable informal units of measurement and using these to measure objects in our classroom. These include paper clips, counters and clocks. We also discussed how to measure items correctly. This included using the same informal units of measurement to measure one item and not using a variety of informal units as this was not accurate. The students really enjoyed measuring many objects in their classroom.
In Inquiry, we are learning about chemical science. We have been looking at the different states of matter - solid, liquid and gas. The students learnt what these states of matter were made of. Solids are made of particles packed tightly together in fixed positions, allowing them to maintain a definitive shape and volume. Liquids are composed of particles close together but with enough energy to move past one another and this allows them to take the shape of their container whilst keeping a fixed volume. Gases are made of particles that are far apart and move quickly and randomly. They have no definite shape or volume and can expand to fill whatever space is available.
Our year two students are really enjoying learning about chemical sciences.
