Wonderful 1

One-derful Class Chronicles
Term 2 Week 4 2026 - Friday 15th May
What have we been up to?
Students have settled back into routines well after the holidays and have been working really hard to follow our classroom expectations and help keep our classroom safe, happy, and ready for learning. We will also be sending home daily shout outs to recognise students who are consistently following expectations and demonstrating great leadership in 1A, so keep an eye out!
Over the past fortnight, students have continued exploring non-fiction information reports and have begun creating their own using headings, topic-specific vocabulary, and organised sections to present information clearly. In Maths, students consolidated their understanding of place value by ordering, comparing, and representing numbers using tens and ones before beginning measurement through hands-on activities exploring mass, capacity, and length. In Science, students started investigating materials and chemical reactions by observing how different materials change when mixed, heated, or combined, and recorded their findings using drawings, simple explanations, and scientific language.

Reading & Writing
We will continue exploring non-fiction information reports and begin creating our own. Students will use the structures and language features we have learnt to organise facts clearly for the reader. They will focus on including headings, topic-specific vocabulary, and grouping information into sections. Students will also practise adding interesting facts and details to make their reports engaging and informative.
Maths
Over the next fortnight, we will be beginning our measurement unit. Students will explore length, mass, and capacity through a range of hands-on activities. They will learn to compare, order, and measure objects using both informal and formal units. Students will also practise describing and explaining their thinking using mathematical language as they investigate measurement in everyday contexts.
Science
In Science, we will be beginning a unit on materials and chemical reactions. Students will explore different materials and investigate how they can change when mixed, heated, or combined. Through a variety of hands-on experiments, students will observe and record different reactions. They will share their findings using drawings, simple explanations, and scientific language.
