Year 5/6 News

We had a fantastic time at our Maths Games Day with Mrs Monaghan! Our day was filled with hands-on activities, problem-solving challenges and opportunities to explore maths in a range of fun and engaging ways. We made the most of the beautiful weather during our morning session by taking our learning outdoors and enjoying a variety of maths games in the sunshine. Throughout the day, students put their mathematical thinking to the test, using logical reasoning, creativity and persistence to work through different challenges. Teamwork and collaboration were key as students shared ideas, discussed strategies, solved problems together and learned from one another. It was amazing to see how wonderfully all our 5/6 students approached the day! They showed fantastic teamwork, enthusiasm and perseverance, working hard and giving each challenge their best effort. We were so proud of the way they supported one another, demonstrated positive sportsmanship and embraced every opportunity to learn. Our 5/6 students should all be incredibly proud of themselves for the way they represented our school and made the day such a success!
In Writing, our 5/6 students have been exploring the wonderful world of poetry! Throughout our writing lessons, we have experimented with a variety of poetic forms, including acrostic, cinquain, haiku and diamante poems. Students have been developing their understanding of how thoughtful language choices, descriptive vocabulary and creative ideas can bring their writing to life. It has been wonderful to see students confidently experimenting with words, playing with meaning and finding different ways to express their ideas. They have also put great care into the presentation of their poems, taking pride in how their creativity is displayed on the page. We have been so impressed with the imagination, effort and attention to detail shown by our young poets. We look forward to seeing what other wonderful words and ideas they come up with as we continue our poetry journey!
In Inquiry, we began our Social Justice unit by exploring the big question, How can we change the world? Students have been encouraged to think about issues that matter to them and consider how they can use their voices to make a positive difference in the world around them. It has been wonderful to see students demonstrating social responsibility by choosing a cause they feel passionate about and creating an artwork to communicate a deeper message. Through their creativity, students have explored how art can raise awareness, challenge perspectives and inspire others to take action. We are incredibly proud of the thought, care and meaning behind their work and cannot wait to share their powerful messages with our school community at the STEM/Art Show in Week 6!
