A Magical Evening at Our German Lantern Festival

This year, our annual German Lantern Festival looked a little different. Instead of taking our traditional lantern parade around the lake, we gathered on the school grounds, allowing us to experience the beautiful tradition of Sankt Martin in an even more authentic way.

Families and friends of our Year 1 students came together for a cosy winter evening filled with warm Kinderpunsch, freshly baked pretzels, and the welcoming glow of a real fire. It was wonderful to see so many smiling faces enjoying time together before we gathered around the fire to share the story of Sankt Martin—a story of kindness, generosity, and sharing that remains just as meaningful today as it has been for generations.

The students proudly sang the lantern song they had learnt in German, their voices filling the evening air. As darkness began to fall, we lit our colourful lanterns and walked together around the school oval, creating a beautiful sea of lights that perfectly captured the magic of the occasion.

A special thank you goes to our Year 2 and Year 3 students and their families who joined us. It is heartwarming to see this celebration becoming part of their own family winter traditions as well.

The evening was filled with warmth, laughter, and a wonderful sense of community. For me personally, it brought back a little piece of home, and it was incredibly special to be able to share this much-loved German tradition with our school community.
