The students have settled into Term 4 well, and it has been wonderful to see our Year 9 and 10 students demonstrating achievement, respect and connection across our school community.

There are plenty of exciting learning opportunities ahead this term, with students continuing to build their skills, confidence and independence through classroom learning, examinations and engaging real-world experiences.

Year 9 Nine-finity

Our Year 9 students have begun their Term 4 Nine-finity program, exploring real-world issues and connecting classroom learning with experiences beyond the school gates. The first excursion, focused on the question What Is Art?, took place on Monday 12 October, with students visiting the National Gallery of Victoria (NGV), Hosier Lane and ACMI.

The upcoming excursions will continue to explore important social, cultural and environmental issues, providing students with valuable opportunities to think critically, challenge their perspectives and learn from experiences in Melbourne's CBD.

The planned full-day excursions are outlined below:

Week 3 – Monday 19 October: Homelessness

  • Students will visit The Big Issue Classroom for a presentation about homelessness, including hearing from someone with lived experience.
  • Students will complete the Big City Search, evaluating the infrastructure and services available to support people in need.

Week 6 – Monday 9 November: Cultural and Environmental Sustainability

  • Students will participate in Indigenous guide Dean Stewart's Walkin' Country, Walkin' Birrarung tour.
  • Students will visit the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) to explore its environmental sustainability initiatives and its design as a world-class sporting facility.

Week 8 – Monday 23 November: Diversity and Multiculturalism

  • Students will visit the Immigration Museum to explore themes of seeking refuge, identity and belonging in Australia.
  • Students will explore Queen Victoria Market to investigate how cultural diversity has influenced Australian culture.

These experiences provide valuable opportunities for students to engage with real-world issues, develop critical thinking skills and deepen their understanding of the world around them.

Year 9 Exams

This semester, Year 9 students will complete their first set of examinations. These exams are an important opportunity for students to practise their revision and examination techniques, build confidence and develop effective study habits in preparation for the demands of Year 10 and beyond.

Students are encouraged to begin preparing early, stay organised and seek support from their teachers when needed.

Families are reminded to check Compass for examination dates, timetables and further details.

Year 10 Exams

Semester 2 examinations will also take place this term for Year 10 students. These exams provide an important opportunity to consolidate learning, demonstrate knowledge and practise the examination skills needed for senior secondary studies.

As students prepare for their transition into VCE and other senior pathways, developing effective revision strategies, time management and independent study habits will be particularly important.

Students should ensure they are familiar with their examination timetable and use the resources and support provided by their teachers.

Please check Compass regularly for examination information and updates.

Year 10 Key Dates/Events:

  • Friday 13th Nov: Semester Exams begin
  • Monday 23rd Nov: 2027 Year 11 Head Start
  • Friday 4th Dec: Last Day for 2026 Year 10

Middle School Reminders

As we move further into Term 4, we encourage all Year 9 and 10 students to maintain the positive routines that support their learning and wellbeing each day.

Students are reminded to:

  • Bring their student planner to every class.
  • Arrive at school and to classes on time, ready to learn.
  • Wear the correct school uniform each day and obtain a uniform pass from the Middle School Office when required.
  • Come prepared with the stationery and equipment needed for each class.
  • Continue to demonstrate achievement, respect and connection in their interactions with peers and staff.
  • Check Compass regularly for important announcements, assessment information and upcoming events.

Warmer Weather Reminder

With the weather getting warmer, it is important that students take care of themselves throughout the school day. Please remember to bring a water bottle, drink water regularly and apply sunscreen before spending time outdoors. Wearing a hat when appropriate and seeking shade during breaks will also help students stay comfortable and protected as temperatures rise.

We are proud of the way our Year 9 and 10 students continue to engage with the many opportunities available to them. We look forward to a positive and productive Term 4, filled with learning, growth and connection across our Middle School community!
