Year 5/6 News
In Maths, we have been learning about decimals, exploring different ways decimals can be represented and partitioned. We represented decimals using our names, practised adding and subtracting decimals, and explored both standard and non-standard partitioning as strategies for working with decimal numbers. We also had lots of fun playing “Decimat”! Each roll of the dice told us which part of a decimal we needed to colour in, helping us develop our understanding of decimal place value while putting our skills into practice.
In Reading, we have continued reading our class novel, The Last Bear, and we are now nearly at the end! It has been wonderful to see how much students have improved in their summarising skills and their ability to provide thoughtful and detailed responses to comprehension questions. Students have been making strong connections to the text and demonstrating a growing understanding of the characters, events and important messages throughout the novel.
In Religion, we have been learning about the “wells” in the life of Mary MacKillop. We began with a brief overview of Mary MacKillop’s life and connected the idea of the wells to our learning about Bucket Fillers and Bucket Dippers. We explored each of the six wells (spiritual, emotional, creative, intellectual, physical and social) and discussed how Mary MacKillop’s actions and choices reflected each area. Students then had the opportunity to think about their own lives and identify connections to each well, considering the people, activities and experiences that help to “fill their bucket” and support their wellbeing.
Congratulations to all our students who represented St Fidelis at the District Athletics Carnival! It was fantastic to see our students give their best, demonstrate great sportsmanship and cheer each other on throughout the day. We are so proud of the way they represented our school and showed determination, resilience and a positive attitude. Well done, everyone!
What a wonderful Book Week we had! It was fantastic to see our students getting into the spirit of the week by dressing up as their favourite book characters and enthusiastically participating in all the Book Week activities. There were some very creative costumes and lots of excitement throughout the school. It was wonderful to see our students celebrating their love of reading and sharing their favourite stories with one another!
