Year 1 News

Although it was a shorter week, it was definitely an exciting one!
As mathematicians, we tuned in to the concept of Division. As thinkers, we focused on sharing collections of objects into equal groups and working out how many are in each fair share. We represented and solved different worded stories and problems using concrete materials, drawings and numbers. We will continue exploring division over the coming weeks as we learn how to write division number sentences and solve problems involving remainders.
As people of faith, we continued to learn about different Saints. This week, we found out about St Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of animals and the environment, and learned about his life. As researchers, we watched videos, viewed slides and looked at photos to gather new information. We explored some of his wonderful qualities and the important things he did to help others, care for animals and show his love for God. As thinkers and communicators, we made our thinking visible by recording describing words and key facts around an image of St Francis.
Our week ended with the most exciting celebration of all, our annual Book Week Parade! This year's theme was Symphony of Stories, and we paraded around the hall dressed as some of our favourite book characters, including Luna Roo, Cat in the Hat, Claris, Spiderman, Batman, Woody, Lilo and Stitch, Matilda, and many more! It was wonderful to see the creativity and effort that went into everyone's costumes and to celebrate our love of reading! After the parade, we became authors and illustrators, designing a new book cover for the character we dressed up as. Check out our amazing costumes and books covers below!
