Year 3 News
As resilient learners, we learnt about the ‘Ripple Effect’ with Miss Zozrut. We discussed how simple actions such as showing kindness, including someone, offering help or using encouraging words can spread from one person to another—just like ripples spreading across water. We explored how our everyday choices can contribute to a positive classroom and school community. We are working towards encouraging others to think about how one small act of kindness can make a big difference and inspire others to do the same.
As readers, we have been immersed in our class novel The Iron Man by Ted Hughes. As we reached the end of the novel, we reflected on the characters, important events, themes and messages explored throughout the story. We have enjoyed making predictions, visualising the exciting events and discussing the choices and challenges faced by the characters. We have also developed their comprehension, vocabulary and creative writing skills through a range of activities connected to the novel. It has been wonderful to see students become so engaged with the story and share their ideas and opinions as we journeyed alongside the Iron Man!
As part of our Book Week celebrations, students had the exciting opportunity to participate in an online author meeting with Will Kostakis. Students heard about his experiences as an author and learned more about the writing process. Throughout the week, we explored various books, discussed characters and stories, shared our favourite reads and completed fun book-inspired activities. We concluded the celebrations with our wonderful book week parade!
As mathematicians, we have been learning about 3D objects and exploring the features that make each object unique. We have identified and described common 3D objects, including cubes, spheres, cones, cylinders, pyramids and prisms. We have been investigating the different features of 3D objects, including faces, edges and vertices, and learning how to describe and compare objects using mathematical language. We have also enjoyed identifying 3D objects in everyday life and exploring how their features help us recognise them.
