Year 2 News

We had another busy week in Year 2! We started the week with an extra day off school and ended with our exciting Book Week Parade. There were so many creative and colourful costumes, and it was wonderful to see everyone getting into the spirit of the day. A big shout-out to our amazing parents and carers for getting on board and helping make Book Week such a special and memorable day! We spent the day reading more of the shortlisted books, celebrating the creativity of authors and illustrators, and then putting our own imagination to work as we created our very own stories!
As People of Faith, we looked at the life of Mary MacKillop. We learnt about who she was, what she did to help others, and how she became Australia’s first saint. We explored how Mary followed Jesus’ example by caring for people who were poor, vulnerable and in need. We took on Mary’s teaching of helping others and thought about how we can be more like Mary in everyday situations. We reflected on simple ways we can show kindness, compassion and hope to those around us.
As Mathematicians, we concluded our learning about division. We explored how arrays and bar models can be used to represent and solve different division problems. We also investigated division with remainders and practised using our understanding of division to solve and explain worded problems. We worked on choosing efficient strategies and explaining how we knew our answers were correct.
As Writers, we finally completed our information reports! We re-read our writing carefully and worked on “bumping it up” by choosing more interesting and descriptive words. We checked that our sentences made sense and that we had included important facts to teach our readers. We then began publishing our awesome work, taking pride in presenting our information reports neatly and clearly. We are excited to share our finished reports with others!
This week, we will be learning about…
- Numeracy: Fractions
- Literacy: Information reports
- Spelling: The graph /e/ making the sound "e" as in bed
- Inquiry: Aquatic Animals
- Religion: Discipleship through the natural world.
- TRP: Emotional Literacy
Reminders for this week:

Have a wonderful week!
Happy Father’s Day to all the dads, granddads and special father figures.
