News from One/Two

We have had a very busy couple of weeks!
Reconciliation week
Last week we had an amazing week full of activities, including damper making, arts and crafts and many indigenous books to celebrate Reconciliation Week. A favourite was How the Birds Got Their Colours. This was a fun creative task!

Spelling
Recently we have been learning about homophones, words that sound identical yet can sometimes be spelt differently and mean different things. We have been using a memory game to read the definitions and match up the correct homophone by reading aloud the word to our peers (e.g. male and mail, there and their etc… )
Writing
This week, we have looked at writing procedures, which include step-by-step instructions. As a class, we discussed a quick step-by-step guide to making fairy bread. Miss Fraser took the instructions very seriously, and we ended up with a bit of a mess! After some reflecting, everyone decided we needed some clearer instructions for Miss Fraser to follow, and we ended up with a masterpiece!
Editing our writing!
Maths
Using numberlines to add and subtract a one digit number and a two digit number (e.g 13 + 9, 27 - 8). The strategy we have been practcising is bridging -10. This means our first step we need to add/subtract an amount to the nearest 10.
We learnt we are so much more confident when adding to a number that ends in a 0, and with some more practice, we will be able to do this more confidently and might be able to introduce three-digits!
Inquiry
During inquiry we have been conducting experiments, developing zoo exhibitions, exploring push and pull forces and now we are heading into space! We learnt about the 8 planets, and we worked in small groups to become experts on the moon, the stars and the sun. This was such a fun week in inquiry!
