News from Foundation

What another fabulous two weeks in Foundation, and we managed to get through it even with some sickness trying to come through! The long weekend will be a nice recharge before the last 2 and a half weeks of Term 2! Where has the time gone?
Maths
We have had a busy two weeks in Foundation learning all about shapes- Circles, Triangles, Rectangles and Squares! We have learned about their features and even matched shapes to fit into different spaces. They used different materials to practice making and drawing the different shapes!
The Foundation students also learned to sort objects into groups based on colour, size, and category. In the classroom, they used various materials to practice sorting and grouping items. This can be a fun activity to do at home!
Luna Roo
The Foundation students enjoyed participating in 'National Simultaneous Storytime'! Where everyone in Australia reads the same book at the same time! This year's book was called 'Luna Roo', which was about a Kangaroo playing in the World Cup soccer. The book had a great message about never giving up, which we love to encourage here at St. Joe's as part of our value 'Resilience'.
Reconciliation Week
The Foundation students loved learning about Reconciliation Week. They enjoyed making the Damper and eating it too!
In the classroom, we focused on learning about some Indigenous Dreamtime Stories about the 'Rainbow Serpent' and 'How the birds got their colours'. They loved learning about these stories and the messages behind them. They even created their own Rainbow Serpents and Colourful Birds!
