Reconciliation Week
Our school community had a wonderful time celebrating Reconciliation Week and learning more about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, histories and contributions.
Throughout the week, students participated in a range of engaging activities that deepened their understanding of reconciliation and the importance of respect, inclusion, and connection.
We started our week with our FIRE Carrier Ceremony, where we inducted our year 6 Students as FIRE Carriers and our Leaders, Amelia and Oli.
One highlight was making traditional damper, which gave students the opportunity to experience and appreciate an important aspect of First Nations culture.
Students also worked together to create their own Acknowledgment of Country, thoughtfully reflecting on the Traditional Custodians of the land and the importance of caring for Country.
Another exciting project was the creation of a music video featuring student artwork set to the iconic song Beds Are Burning. Students proudly showcased their creativity while exploring themes of reconciliation, belonging and connection to Country. To watch the video, head over to our Facebook and Instagram pages! We are so proud of what they created! Or watch it using the link below!
To conclude the week, our school community came together to raise funds for the Opening the Doors Foundation. Thanks to the generosity of students, families and staff, we raised an impressive $169.30. These funds will help Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students access educational opportunities and achieve their goals. A big thank you to Amelia, Oli and Zac for helping out organise and run this event!
We are incredibly proud of the enthusiasm, creativity and respect shown by our students throughout Reconciliation Week. Thank you to everyone who contributed to making the week such a memorable and meaningful success.
