This Term in Physical Education, we have prepared for the House Cross Country, Grade Four and Grade 5/6 Winter Gala Days. At the District Cross Country, 60 children represented the school, with 11 advancing to the Division Cross Country, including Tillie F, who came 1st in her race. At the Division Cross Country, Miller finished 10th and made it through to the Region Cross Country event at Yarra Glen racecourse.

The students in Foundation have completed fitness activities to prepare them for the laps of the Junior Cross Country. We have also explored various Movement types such as skipping, running, hopping, jumping and shuffling. We also moved like animals, which displayed some of these ways of moving, as well as crawling, sliding and shuffling. We are now completing a unit on the fundamental motor skill of throwing, starting with underarm throwing and catching individually and in pairs.

The students in Grade 1 and 2 have begun this Term developing their fitness involving games that keep them moving and help improve their stamina. This prepared them for the Junior Cross Country, where they showed great resilience, persistence, and a growth mindset as they completed laps of the school course to the best of their ability. We also completed activities focused on kicking, culminating in Minor Games of Kickball and Soccer in our lessons. We have now begun a unit on fundamental motor skills, including throwing, exploring throwing and catching individually and with a partner. They also focused on target throwing with tennis balls and beanbags using an underarm action.

The students in Grades 3/4 have worked to improve their fitness and stamina in preparation for the House Cross Country. They demonstrated great resilience, keeping trying their best to complete a 2km lap of the streets around the school. They also got to experience the skills and game strategies of T-Ball, Soccer, Netball, and AFL 9s to help them choose a sport for the Grade 4 Winter Gala Day, where they played against schools in our District. In wet, cold conditions, all teams showed great resilience despite facing stronger opponents. We are now focusing on Athletics skills in Field events, especially to prepare the students for our House Cross Country in Week 2 of Term Three.

The students in Grade 5/6 have developed their fitness and stamina through a range of games, activities, and training to adequately prepare for the House Cross Country event, which involves a 2km or 3km run around the surrounding streets. They displayed amazing effort, with some finishing in personal-best positions or times, and many represented us proudly at the District Cross Country event at Ruffey Lake Park on an undulating track. They are now training strongly for the Winter Gala Day, which is next Thursday 11th June, where the Netball teams will play at Sportslink in Vermont South and T-Ball, Soccer and AFL 9’s will now play at Mahoney’s Reserve in Forest Hill.
