Open Boys Cricket

Congratulations to Our Open Boys Cricket Side

The open boys cricket team headed off at first light over to Hay yesterday, to take on Hay High.

Winning the toss and opting to bowl first proved a great decision.

Bryce and Ross took the new ball and had instant success, bowling their opener in the first over.

A mix up between the batters caused a slightly controversial obstructing the field moment. The batter survived, but Ross was filthy and fired up, an ominous sign of things to come for the Hay boys.

Ross and Bryce picked up the first 5 Hay wickets for just 25 runs in their opening spell, courtesy of safe catching from Jeff, Pete and Bryce off his own bowling.

Pete then came on and broke through straight away, Harley taking a really nice catch at square leg.

Archer came on as the second change bowler and caused headaches, eventually taking 3 or 11, including a screamer of a reflex catch at first slip, one handed from Bryce.

Some late resistance from numbers ,10 & 11 moved Hays score up to 66. But Overall, it was a commanding performance in the field, with all bowlers bowling impeccably and every available chance on the field taken with aplomb.

In reply, after promising to settle in and build an innings, a fired up Ross decided instead to tee off on the Hay bowling.

Pez got knocked over, but that bought Archer to the crease. Ross and Arch batting together showed powerful stroke play and ran between the wickets with the speed and energy of rabbits on red bull, racing towards the victory target of 67. Ross ended with 42 not out, Arch with 13 not.

Overall an excellent days cricket, well done boys.
