Careers

Hello Parents/Guardians and Community Members,

Next week we have the Year 10 Work Experience week, and students should have returned their forms to the careers office so I can now call all employers and sign off on the insurance for their work experience. Our TAFE YES Try a Trade program only has two more Fridays to go, and all the students have really enjoyed learning new skills for each trade course and producing small take home projects for each session.

Upcoming Events

Year 10 Work Experience

NEXT WEEK - 23rd March to 27th March

Please note that Year 10 Work Experience week will be held next week. As nearly all our Year 10 students have placements organised there will be no scheduled classes for students held that week. Any student who has not yet returned or organised their work experience is required to come to the careers office asap to discuss alternatives.

All forms and placements must be returned to the careers office now so that I can contact each individual employer to discuss Duty or Care responsibilities and sign off on the insurance paperwork.

TAFE YES Program - TRY A TRADE

Commencing on 27th February – 27th March

Last Friday, our students experienced the Construction Trades and worked with the Construction Teacher Colin to build a folding work chair. It was a full-on day, and students were very busy trying to complete their projects within the one day. We wish to sincerely thank Colin, Sheridan and Erin for all their assistance of our students to get their mini projects completed on the day.

We look forward to seeing what this Friday’s Trade will be and what activities the students get up to up at TAFE. As always, these amazing courses are due to the tireless work and advocacy for our students by TAFE Services Coordinator Sheridan Scali, so a huge thank you to Sheridan!

White Card Courses

Term 2 - 18th & 19th May or 20th & 21st May

We now have confirmation of two Virtual White Card Course dates for students to attend here at school. These real time, face-to-face courses are via a team’s zoom session and meet all the requirements of the SafeWork White Card Construction Safety courses. I am currently taking students from Year 9 – 12 expressions of interest to undertake this training and will need to prioritised students going out on work experience. Please encourage your child to come and put their name on the list so I know the numbers of courses I need to secure to cover all our students. Due to the rules of SafeWork we can only host 15 students in each course.

The course is completely subsidised by the Department of Education and so there is no cost for the course itself. However, the SafeWork Card does have a cost of $30.00 for each student.

*All students will need to obtain a Unique Student Identifier Number to participate. I can assist students to obtain this online but will require them to bring in a photo of their Medicare card to obtain this USI. Or students can obtain this themselves by accessing the following website:
