Sydney Royal Easter Show 

Our Agriculture students enjoyed the chance to see a wide range of livestock and experience all that the show has to offer. Our Poultry Team again impressed the judges, taking out the title of Most Successful School Poultry Exhibitor. Milla, Alicia, Caitlin and Ethan spoke confidently in the Poultry Showmanship Competition, along with 26 students from a range of schools throughout the state, with Milla being awarded 2nd place. The Alpaca Team, Isabella, Milla, Jacob, Aiden, Chloe, Jack, Tobias and Cassidy, competed strongly in both the school and open classes.

Meanwhile, our Cattle Team has begun preparing a Murray Grey steer for the Greater Sydney Schools Cattle Competition. Students have been formulating rations, monitoring growth and training the steer to lead. Some team members recently attended a training day to further develop their skills in grooming, leading and livestock judging. Team members include Isabella, Jacob, Sybella, Caitlin, Alicia, Ruby, Aiden, Will, Chloe, Archie – all showing great commitment.

Year 7 students have been enjoying the fruits of their labour – literally – by harvesting their tomatoes and making delicious tomato soup, perfect for warming up during this chilly weather.

Year 10 have completed their research projects and are now developing their microbiology skills during our Mushroom Production unit. They have been amazed to see the vast array of gourmet mushrooms that we can grow as well as learning about the alternate uses of mushroom materials for packaging, building and “leather”. 

Year 11 and 12 visited Leppington Pastoral Company to study their very advanced dairy and came away with lots of new insights into the industry.

Preparations are now underway for our Penrith Show display which is in Week 6 next term.
