A wonderful day at the Elderslie Public AECG meeting!
Our students proudly represented Elderslie High School as the only high school in attendance, showing leadership, respect and enthusiasm throughout the afternoon. Students participated in meaningful yarning circles where they shared the cultural activities and initiatives happening at our school, before taking part in a weaving workshop.
Our students were absolute stars, creating beautiful woven bracelets and demonstrating excellent leadership and teamwork. We are so proud of the way they represented our school community.
A big thank you to Elderslie Public School and everyone involved for welcoming us and providing such a valuable cultural learning experience.
WSU Pathways to Dreaming Excursion
Year 7 and 8 First Nations students recently enjoyed the Western Sydney University Pathways to Dreaming excursion at WSU Campbelltown, marking their first visit to the university for many. The day was packed with enriching experiences, including a cultural walk and yarn in the gardens that deepened their connection to culture. Students showcased their STEM skills and teamwork during an engineering challenge, building the tallest and most innovative towers using staples, winning two well-deserved awards. They also explored the fascinating world of AI with a robotic dog demonstration and gained insight into podiatry by testing various equipment.
The beautiful weather complemented an engaging day where the majority of students actively participated in all activities, demonstrating our EHS values of respect and responsibility. Their genuine curiosity and enthusiasm for learning about culture and university opportunities made this excursion a memorable and inspiring experience for all.
What a fantastic week at EHS celebrating National Reconciliation Week! ❤️🖤💛
Across the week, students and staff came together to learn, create, connect and celebrate culture through a range of fun lunchtime activities.
We kicked things off on Monday with our First Nations Roll Call and pebble decorating for our Bush Tucker Garden 🌿 Tuesday brought plenty of creativity with crafts, while Wednesday saw students working together to create the background for our EHS community flag.
On Thursday, students relaxed with a movie and colouring inspired by this year’s Reconciliation Week theme, before ending the week with a fun-filled First Nation scavenger hunt on Friday!
A huge thank you to everyone who got involved throughout the week. It was wonderful seeing our school community come together to learn, yarn, laugh and celebrate the importance of reconciliation.
Bushtucker Workshop
Recently, our Year 7 and 8 First Nations students enjoyed a fantastic in-school Bushtucker Workshop hosted by Western Sydney University ambassadors. The students had a meaningful yarn with the WSU representatives and got hands-on experience making their own damper infused with wattle seed powder. They also tasted tea brewed from native strawberry gum leaves and sampled a variety of native-flavoured jams and honey, including finger lime and rosella. This engaging activity was a wonderful opportunity for students to connect with their culture while having fun and learning about traditional bush foods.
