Mr Will
It has been fantastic to welcome everyone back to 5/6W for our final term of the year! We have a busy few weeks ahead, with plenty of exciting experiences and special moments to look forward to. This term, students will have the opportunity to visit Arthurs Seat Eagle as part of our Inquiry learning, participate in wellbeing incursions and prepare for our whole-school Nativity production. We also have House Sports Day coming up, which is always a great opportunity for some friendly competition and school spirit!
For our Grade 5 students, this term will be an opportunity to continue developing their leadership skills as they prepare for their final year of primary school. Meanwhile, our Grade 6 students have some very special moments ahead, particularly their Graduation as we celebrate their time at St Francis Xavier.
It is hard to believe we are already in Term 4, but I am looking forward to making the most of our final weeks together. Please keep an eye on the school newsletter and Seesaw for important information and updates throughout the term. Here's to a fantastic finish to the year!
Our Grade 5/6 students had a fantastic day at John Paul College for the Lightning Premiership, where they represented St Francis Xavier in soccer and netball against other local schools. It was wonderful to see students giving their best effort, working together as a team and showing great sportsmanship throughout the day. There were plenty of exciting moments, and I was incredibly proud of the determination, encouragement and positive attitudes shown by everyone. A big congratulations to all students involved for representing our school so well, both on and off the field and court!

This term in Inquiry, students are becoming young scientists as we explore our exciting new unit, Science Rocks! Throughout the term, we will be learning about rocks, minerals and the different natural processes that shape and change the Earth around us. We have already begun investigating weathering, with students taking part in hands-on activities to see how different materials can break down and change over time, as shown in the photos below. As part of our learning, we are also looking forward to visiting Arthurs Seat Eagle, where students will have the chance to observe our local environment and connect what we have learnt in the classroom to the world around us. It is shaping up to be a fantastic term full of discoveries, experiments and plenty of scientific curiosity!

In Education in Faith this term, students will be learning about Advent and why it is such an important time in the Catholic Church. Through our unit, Discovering the Journey to Christmas, we will explore the meaning behind different Christmas traditions, symbols and stories, while reflecting on how we can prepare our hearts for the birth of Jesus. Students will also have the opportunity to create their own Advent calendars and wreaths, putting their learning and creativity into practice. These will be displayed at our Learning Showcase in Week 9, where families will have the chance to see the wonderful work students have completed. We are looking forward to exploring this special time of year together!
