In Visual Arts, students have continued to explore a variety of Elements of Art, with a particular focus on texture. Students also acknowledged International Dot Day, with each student creating a dot or circle-inspired artwork to contribute to a colourful whole-school collaborative art piece.

Foundation

Foundation students created their very own beaded snails, using modelling materials and beads to explore form, colour and texture. They also created glow-in-the-dark folded paper geckos, experimenting with folding, pattern and fluorescent materials. Students also completed another self-portrait, giving them the opportunity to compare their drawing skills with their self-portraits from the beginning of the year and see how much their skills and confidence have developed.

Year 1/2

Year 1 students completed their wonderful textured monsters, using a variety of materials including fabric, corrugated cardboard, foam, ribbon, pom poms and other collage materials. They also created colourful yarn cats by wrapping and arranging yarn around cardboard.  

Year 2 students also explored different materials and techniques through yarn and plasticine art. Where they also created colourful yarn cats by wrapping and arranging yarn around cardboard. Students also created plasticine artworks by first drawing a simple image and then using small amounts of plasticine to press, spread and smudge colour inside their designs.

Year 3/4

Year 3/4 students learnt about architect and artist Antoni Gaudí and his famous use of mosaics. They explored his mosaic technique, which involved arranging broken pieces of colourful tiles, ceramics and glass to create decorative patterns, images and surfaces. Inspired by Gaudí’s work, students created their own mosaic artworks using small pieces of coloured paper, carefully arranging and gluing the pieces to complete their individual designs. Students also explored yarn and textiles, choosing to create either a colourful yarn artwork or a dream catcher. These activities allowed students to experiment with wrapping, threading and arranging yarn while developing their fine motor skills, creativity and understanding of pattern and texture.

Year 5/6

Year 5/6 students began exploring the traditional textile technique of weaving by creating colourful woven blankets for their cardboard llamas. Students experimented with different yarn colours and patterns, carefully weaving over and under to build their designs.

Zehra and I would like to wish all our students and families a happy, safe and relaxing holiday break. We look forward to seeing everyone again next term, refreshed and ready for an exciting Term 4 as we prepare for our Visual Art Show in Week 5!

Every student has had the opportunity to plan, design and create their own unique artwork during Visual Arts lessons. Once completed, families will be able to purchase a variety of personalised keepsakes featuring their child's artwork.

PE 

The last two weeks of term have been a little different as the 56’s were on camp last week and the preps to year 4s had a flexible lesson, doing a variety of games and activities with Mr Duckett. This week was the last week of term, so I always allow the students to choose their own activities. They chose their favourite games, which included fruit salad, octopus, ball games and more. The year 56 students did teeball games to help the girls teeball team prepare for their State competition which was held on Wednesday.

Kingston District Athletics Day

On Monday 14th, we had 40 students from years 3-6 compete at the Kingston District Athletics Day against approximately 10 other schools in the district.

It was a great day of fun and competition, and all of our students tried their best and encouraged each other very well.

We had a few students who did well and got a place, which included Nate who won the under 11’s long jump, Atida who came second in the under 9/10s shot put and Thomas B who came second in the under 12/13 high jump. These three students progress to the next round which will be Division in the first week back of term 4. Holly F came 3rd in the 12/13 girls discus, however only the first two place getters in each event move through to the next round.

Well done to everyone for their efforts, and thanks to the staff who helped on the day, Ms Lowrie, Mr Nick and Mr Tom.

Girls State Teeball Competition

On Wednesday 16th September the girls teeball team went to Waverley Softball Centre to compete at the State Teeball competition. This is a massive achievement as this is the result of winning district, divison an regional competitions and is the best schools from across all primary schools in Victoria.

We played 2 games in the round robin competition and the girls won the first game comfortably and got off to a very good start in the second game, and after the first two innings we were winning 10-9, however we struggled in the next couple of innings and lost by 7 runs.

The girls had a great day and tried their best and we are very proud of their efforts. 

I would like to thank a number of parents who drove the girls to the competition, Renate (Hazel’s mum), Garry (Eshie’s dad), James (Holly’s dad) and Anthony (Ramona’s dad). This was a great help.

I would also like to thank Matilda for her help not just on this day, but throughout the year from Term 1 till now. She has supported the girls really well and helped with scoring and I think has learnt a great about the game along the way.

Music 

Preps:

Over the past two weeks students in Prep have learnt to sing the national anthem and the school song. A number of students had commented that they did not know the national or the school anthem, so we spent some time learning the lyrics, clarifying the meaning of certain words in the National Anthem and also tried using Auslan signs to accompany the lyrics of the school song. Next term we will be working towards performing in the Christmas Concert and learning a number of new songs. 

Year 1 & 2

The Year 1 students have spent the last two weeks learning about composition. Students wrote simple lyrics about an animal of their choice and in week 10 created a short song on GarageBand to accompany their lyrics. Next term, students in Year 1 will be learning songs to perform in the Christmas concert as well as revisiting learning from throughout the year to consolidate their understanding.

The year 2 students have had an awesome time planning, storyboarding and beginning to film their commercials. They will continue editing and refining their commercials in weeks 1 - 3 of next term and then they will share their commercials on a Tuesday afternoon in week 4 or 5.

Year 3 & 4

Students in years 3 and 4 have done a fantastic job planning, storyboarding, editing and refining their commercials. They will spend the first two weeks of Term 4 editing their commercials and then aim to share them with all Year 3 and 4 students one afternoon in weeks 3 or 4.

Year 5 & 6

Whilst the Year 5 and 6 music lessons have been disrupted in week 9 due to camp, they did a great job in week 10, beginning to compose the music that they will use to record their lyrics with. This learning will carry over into weeks 1 and 2 of Term 4.
