Welcome to Week 10 of Term 3! 

Literacy

In Literacy, students have recently finished reading The Little Wave by Pip Harry. Throughout the text, students explored the characters, themes and emotions within the story while developing their understanding of how authors and poets use language to express ideas and feelings.

Building on this learning, students have been exploring the features of free verse poetry and have had the opportunity to write their very own poems about themselves! Students thought carefully about what makes them unique and used their poems to share who they are, including their interests, hobbies, likes and dislikes, special qualities and dreams for the future.

Students have experimented with a range of poetic devices and creative language choices to bring their poems to life. They have worked hard to choose interesting words and phrases, organise their ideas into meaningful lines and use their own individual voice throughout their writing.

It has been wonderful to see the creativity, imagination and individuality shine through in each student's poem. We have loved learning more about each student through their writing and seeing them develop confidence in expressing themselves through poetry!

Maths

In Maths, students have been revising their understanding of Time. Throughout this unit, students have had lots of opportunities to develop their confidence in reading, creating and modelling different times using both analogue and digital clocks.

Students have been practising skills such as reading the time to the hour, half hour, quarter hour and minute, as well as exploring the relationship between analogue and digital representations of time. To make our learning engaging and hands-on, students have participated in a range of fun activities, including creating and modelling times on clocks, using a human timeline to physically represent the passing of time, playing interactive games and working collaboratively with their classmates to solve time-related challenges.

It has been wonderful to see students building on their prior knowledge, developing new strategies and becoming more confident in explaining their thinking. This has been a fun and engaging unit that has allowed students to consolidate what they already know about Time while extending their understanding and exploring new concepts along the way!

Inquiry

Over the past two weeks in Inquiry, students have been putting their knowledge and understanding of communities into practice by creating their own community posters. Students have explored what makes a community, why communities are important and how people work together to create safe, supportive and successful places for everyone.

As part of their posters, students included their own definition of a community, explained why rules and responsibilities are important within a community, identified different communities across Australia and described the important roles of community helpers. Students then used their creativity and imagination to design their very own dream community!

Students drew and labelled the different features they would include in their ideal community, thinking carefully about the places, people, services and facilities that would help make their community a welcoming and enjoyable place to live. It has been wonderful to see students apply their learning while also sharing their own ideas and thinking about what makes a community special.
