Camp

Last week, our Year 5/6 students headed off to Woorabinda for an action-packed five days filled with adventure, teamwork and plenty of new memories. It was a joy to see students challenge themselves, step outside their comfort zones and support one another throughout the camp experience.

During the day, students took part in a range of exciting activities, including canoeing, high ropes, zip lining, archery, go-kart buggies, shelter making, mapping and a variety of team challenges. We also enjoyed cooking up some delicious treats around the campfire like s’mores and damper. Each activity provided students with opportunities to develop their independence, resilience, communication and teamwork skills.

The fun continued with our evening activities, including the night walk, games night, movie night and our much-anticipated Talent Show. A huge congratulations to all the talented performers who took to the stage. We were so impressed with the creativity and confidence they showed! 

Camp was a fantastic opportunity for our students to create lasting memories with their friends and teachers. We are incredibly proud of the way the 5/6 students embraced every challenge, encouraged one another and represented our school wonderfully. A big thanks to Mr Bradley for all your hard work preparing for the lead up to camp! 

Learning Focuses

Literacy

This week, our Year 5/6 students have begun building on their persuasive writing skills by writing persuasive speeches about saving the Great Barrier Reef. Students have been developing strong OREO arguments and using persuasive devices such as rhetorical questions, expert opinions and statistics to convince their listeners. They have also been working on organising their ideas into a clear and engaging speech, with the goal of confidently presenting a speech to the class next term. 

Mathematics

In Year 5, students have been developing their understanding of measurement by learning how to convert between different units of measurement, and estimating and measuring items using rulers and metre-rulers. 

In Year 6, students have been planning their own statistical investigations. They have been exploring how to develop a question that can be investigated, identify the information they need to collect and plan how they will gather and organise their data. This has provided students with an opportunity to think critically about how data can be collected and used to answer questions.
