🌟 What a Wonderful Term 3! 🌟

What a fantastic Term 3 we have had in Prep! It has been wonderful to see how much the children have grown in their learning, confidence and independence throughout the term. We have enjoyed celebrating 100 Days of School, Book Week, House Athletics, our Teddy Bear Hospital Incursion, Butterfly Incursion and so many other exciting learning experiences.

The children have worked hard across all areas of their learning, from reading and writing to maths, inquiry and our classroom discussions. We are especially proud of the way they have continued to develop their ability to listen, participate and share their ideas with others.

A very special thank you to our wonderful Prep families for all of your support throughout the term. We truly appreciate the time you put into reading at home, practising sounds and sight words, talking with your children about their learning and supporting them with all of our school activities. It makes such a difference to the children's confidence and progress, and we are so grateful to have you as part of our Prep community. 💛

We hope you all have a well-deserved break, enjoy some special family time and make lots of happy memories together. We can't wait to welcome everyone back for our final term of Prep! 🌈

It is incredible the amount of hats we get at school without names and this makes it very difficult to know who's who's.

What we are learning!

Maths

In Maths, we have continued developing our understanding of grouping and sharing through hands-on activities and games. While some of these concepts have been a challenge for our students, they have shown great persistence and continued to have a go, even when the learning felt tricky.

We have now completed our assessment for this unit and will continue to consolidate these skills before beginning a new Maths unit in Term 4. It has been wonderful to see the students building confidence and developing their mathematical thinking along the way.

Inquiry – Habitats and Life Cycles

This term, we have loved exploring our Habitats and Life Cycles unit and discovering more about the living world around us. Students have learnt about different habitats, what plants and animals need to survive, and how living things grow and change throughout their life cycles.

A real highlight was our Butterfly Incursion, where students had the opportunity to see butterflies up close and deepen their understanding of the butterfly life cycle. It was wonderful to see their excitement and curiosity as they asked questions, shared their ideas and made connections to our learning.

As we wrap up our unit, it has been fantastic to reflect on how much the students have learnt. They have grown in their understanding of living things and developed their ability to observe, ask questions, make predictions and share their thinking. Most importantly, they have approached our Inquiry learning with such enthusiasm and wonder, reminding us just how exciting it is to discover something new!

Literacy:

In Literacy, we have continued exploring rhyming couplets, rhyming words and poetry. The students have enjoyed listening to a range of fun texts, including The Terrible Plop, while developing their ability to identify words that rhyme and notice the rhythm and patterns in poems.

The students have worked hard to create their own simple rhyming couplets, experimenting with words and using their imaginations to create some very funny poems! To wrap up our learning, all students completed an assessment where they wrote their own 2- or 4-line rhyming couplet.

Phonics

In term 4 we will upload the phonics codes that will be taught.

Leader In Me:

Students are also participating in regular Leader in Me (LIM) lessons each week. During these sessions, students are learning important skills such as being kind and respectful, making good choices, listening to others and working together positively with their classmates.

Specialist timetable:

Monday: Music, Auslan and RRRR

Tuesday: Leader in Me, PE and Art

Friday: Assembly (2.45pm in the hall, all parents welcome.)
