Welcome to Week 10 of Term 3!
Literacy: Literacy:
Our Year 4 students have thoroughly enjoyed exploring the wonderful world of poetry through a range of engaging picture books. We have read Outside In to learn about personification, Listen to discover onomatopoeia, My Amazing Alphabet to investigate alliteration, and Owl Moon, where students explored imagery and how descriptive language helps readers create vivid mental pictures using their senses.
Students have also developed their understanding of these poetic devices through our Poetry CAT (Common Assessment Task), demonstrating their ability to analyse poetry and identify the techniques poets use.
We have now finished reading and analysing The Little Wave by Pip Harry, our free verse novel. Throughout the unit, students developed their reading comprehension through discussion, questioning and written responses, while exploring how Pip Harry uses word choice, structure and poetic language to communicate emotions, ideas and experiences.
To finish our poetry unit, students have planned, drafted, edited and published their own original free verse poems. They have drawn on everything they have learnt throughout the term, incorporating poetic devices such as personification, onomatopoeia, alliteration, similes, metaphors and imagery.
It has been wonderful to see students use their creativity and individual experiences to create unique poems that truly reflect who they are. We are incredibly proud of the effort, creativity and enthusiasm they have shown throughout our poetry unit!

Inquiry:
This term, our Year 4 students have been exploring the topic of Community. Throughout the unit, students investigated what makes a community, the different groups and organisations that support our local area, and the important roles people play in helping communities thrive.
Students explored how people work together to meet the needs of community members and contribute to creating safe, inclusive and connected communities. They also developed their inquiry skills by asking questions, researching information, considering different perspectives and sharing their findings.
It has been wonderful to see students develop a deeper understanding of their place within the community and the many ways they can make a positive contribution as active and responsible citizens. We are very proud of the knowledge, curiosity and thoughtful ideas they have demonstrated throughout this unit.
